Male vasectomy..need advice please

I'm planning to get myself booked in for the proceedure quite soon but as it approaches I am actually feeling quite anxious about it.
I understand its quite straightforward these days but I get mixed info from friends and colleagues that have had it done.
Possibly stems from never even been to hospital for anything in my life before...

So,can anyone please give me the honest thoughts on this -good and bad if need be - also the recovery process?

Hopefully you can put my mind at rest!

(PM me if its better for you)

Thanks as usual

suprised no-one got back on this ...
    hmmmm
1st - baldy bits - you need to be de-haired..! decide with partner how you want to do this and...erm? make an event of it ..........
that'll give you something to look forward to

    then theres the ...thing.......
cant really help with that - but after some frank comparison its not much worse than a combination smear test and a filling so absolutly more than bearable ( its a local anasthetic thing and often done at local gp)

    the aftermath
buy a swim ring to sit on
clutch a hotwaterbottle of any temperature you fancy to your bits
buy a bottle of your fave booze
    get in a takaway menu
ban the kids from the room for the weekend
make sure you book it on a good tv / sports weekend
    and indulge yourself

you dont need to do most of this ( apparently)
but frankly - as your taking one for the team - why not...:D

Wear supportive pants and be a big brave soldier. Well that is what my hubby did but he didnt get a lot of sympathy as I was running around after the four children he had fathered and i'd given birth to, without pain relief!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

no advice (due to being a pregnant woman!) but i felt compelled to share a classic family tale!

my poor dad was sent off to get 'done' after my surprise sister turned up. he braved the op, came home and was advised to 'air' the affected parts daily to ensure quick healing. so dad came down the next day after a shower, towel round his waist, and duly allowed said airing to take place. unfortuately, mum had let the cat in shortly before, who noticed the family jewels airing away, darted across the room and took a full claws out swipe, and not missing!!!!!

we like to remind him from time to time. moral of the story. no cats.

I can only comment on my DH's experience but it certainly seemed bearable. :)

Make sure you have somebody to drive you home after the procedure. Also make sure you have decent painkillers. Ibuprofen or other anti inflammatory....this is not an occasion for braving it with a few paracetamol.

Must be just me that had no fun having it done then!

After building my mini-me army to 3 strong I made the decision it was time to have the snip last year.

I had it done the day after my 35th birthday. Late present and all that.

My GP's didn't do it in-house so to speak so I had to go to the local hospital for it.

Got there and after a short while pacing around I went in to have the procedure carried out. I was shaking like a leaf, mainly because the operating theater was cold, but also because I was nervous as hell. It didn't help that there were half a dozen people in the room. 2 surgeons and 4 nurses.

It was done under local anaesthetic and was quite frankly very uncomfortable. Took about 20 minutes and if I could avoid having it done again I would! I still cringe thinking about it today.

Unlike most reports of it being painless afterwards, post-op I had quite a bit of pain for a week or two but nothing that a couple of paracetamol couldn't take the edge off.

I think the surgeons who carried out the procedure were quite brutal but at least they warned me in advance when it was going to get uncomfortable, which it definately did.

Get it over and done with and don't think about it! Nearly a year on I'm glad I had it done!

My friends husband went back to work afterwards. He'd got a manual job too. Whilst i dont reccomend you do the same he got by on as little pain relief as possible. He said it was a doddle.

    My hubby has been done.

I had bought him (a boxer man) some briefs but the doctor suggested swimming trunks, keep everything snug to stop swelling.

Hubby was a bit sore, but fine. :)
