I wouldn't mind slower but cheaper delivery as an option (3rd class stamps?)
The only hope of cheaper is a 'standard' class domestic letter, but that would be a way down the line if it ever happened, there isn't going to be a third class, that would involve another layer of sorting and more cost. I'm assuming if you're posting on here you would be bothered about large letter and packet prices, they're only going to go up unless you're shifting large volumes.

Get used to the new postal prices, you're stuck with them!

If people always believed that nothing could ever be changed we would still have the cold war going on.
Everything can be changed at some point. However, that change is not done by people who believe that nothing can be done and that we are stuck with what we have.

It does not hurt at least to theorise what could be changed.

AFAIK in other EU countries it is possible to send letters between other EU countries in an economy category. So in the UK it would be an equivalent of surface mail, but there is no such option at present, the surface mail is available only for non-EU overseas delivery.

yes, because they they are connected by road.
everything coming out of the UK would have to go by plane, boat, train.

But that change is not good for customers (nor for the RM). That's why the change should be changed again.

By that logic they would not be able to send economy letters to the UK, but they can. Also overseas (beyond the EU) surface mail from the UK would not be possible (but it is). Boat, train is surface mail, too IMHO.

sigh. again(an I think I will block you if you continue this)
the changes you are whining about came a decade ago (and more)
there are more changes in motion now.
you may as well start moaning about the handling of the Falklands war!

no,because we have a wicked system in the UK called roads
surface mail outwith the UK is slow/cheap for a reason.
its uses transport thats already going to X place

This is very true, try and get a quote from a courier to ship a parcel to mainland Greece and then get one for one of the Greek islands, the difference is crazy, but I guess they have to get a truck on a boat or fly it in.

Change isn't always forthcoming, especially when finances are involved, that's why no one is demanding petrol be £1 a gallon, it ain't gonna happen.

Well after you've written to your MP and then received a response post back on here and see if anyone can help with your cause.

    ....

If USA, which are the primary example of capitalistic economy, have the monopoly of postal service, then there is no reason why we should not have one.

The US postal service lost $5.1 billion last year. And it would have been more had the federal government not decided to 'defer' a $5.5 billion payment due. So it seems that a monopoly isn't necessarily the answer.
    ....
If you prove that there was an EU legislation (please, quote it), which forced them to do it at that time when they did it, then I change my opinion.

Try Directive 97/67/EC, Directive 2002/39/EC, and Directive 2008/06/EC

But look what's the difference in distances.
But we don't need that here. We have terraces, so what would be the point of boxes at the end of the road?

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/shopping/2012/04/ofcom-proposes-second-class-large-letter-and-small-parcels-price-cap links to my post with a picture of a bad british letter box.

It should be possible to tax these boxes or reduce services to them.
"Great", so the government listened to several dozens of private companies, and ignored several dozens of millions of personal customers (the voters). I do not grasp the logic of this.
Ofcom consulted in November / December while Royal Mail's online postage wasn't working, so all the ebayers and smaller shopkeepers were licking stamps rather than looking for consultation pages. And as the cost of cross-subsidising the universal postal service has fallen on a smaller and smaller part of Royal Mail, nobody has ever consulted me about how much I should subsidise other parts of the UK.

However the consultation on price caps has come round again so please fill it in!
