They only charge by distance on special services or larger items, in that respect it's much the same as here.

Comparing US to UK isn't comparing like for like, however it works. Compared to Italy we have the Rolls Royce of postal services.

I could have compared to China.

    There's still no alternative.

There is a cheaper alternative for items weighing 1 kg or more. See post #7

I have already told you I'm not spoonfeeding you.
your opinion matters not one jot to me or the RM situation.

Do you expect that everyone should be so knowledgeable about the RM issues as you?

That is not good that our (customers) opinion is not taken into consideration when making such decisions.

    When you think about this:

this is shocking that this did happen, and nobody feels responsible. No-one even looks for those responsible.

I see the results, and they are horrifying, so whatever, whenever happened must have been the results of bad decisions made, otherwise it would not end so bad like this:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=52559773&postcount=41

And that's all I need to know to draw such conclusions.

You can't seriously expect that everyone would have equal and deep interest in everything. That is impossible.

    Before opening the market:

    1. The RM was making huge profit (mahoosive, as you said)
    2. Prices were low, and stable for many, many years
    3. Everyone was happy, except perhaps the several dozens of the RM wannabe competitors
Opening the market wasn't the only factor though. There has been a massive drop in mail, opening the markets coincided with the rise of the internet. Think of all the bills you pay online, statements you check, etc and that's just on the business side. If (and I'm making this up) your average house received 40 letters a month they now receive 5.

The up side has been the parcels which are obviously more expensive to handle.
