  • Loving all the hugs, thank you!

DH got out of hospital at about 4pm. There have been no more seizures and he is more 'normal'. We saw the Epilepsy Nurse before he was discharged and she has managed to get us in with DH's Consultant on Monday, which is a stroke of luck as you normally have to wait months. The nurse says I'm now to give Buccal Midazolam during the first seizure as DH is recognised to have cluster seizures rather than single ones so it might help prevent more. I'm not convinced but hopefully it will work better next time.

Got weighed tonight and I've stayed the same . The chocolate I ate instead of food yesterday obviously didn't help! I didn't stay to class as I'd left the boys and DH at home with a very nervous MIL. She doesn't cope well if DH is poorly.

DH has postponed his tattoo on the recommendation of the Epilepsy Nurse. He was miserable at having to do so, but he's rebooked for next week. Hopefully he will be better by then and have no further seizures.

  • hmmm.

I suppose that makes sense re meds. All the seizures could have been one cluster.

Are you due on - you don't have to share that info! just wondered if you were that might explain the staying the same. Mind you I do think the huge amount of stress you have been under your body won't be going ooo lets lose some weight!

just as a random aside you are being really good about the tattoo. I would have had a row!

    Sending more hugs,

    Nevertheless she persisted.

I should have been clearer Buffy, by cluster seizures I mean several seizures per episode rather than a disjointed seizure. Either way though, it's not fun. DH is on the highest dose of his meds already at 500mg per day. The Consultant told us last time that he has just 1 patient (in hundreds) on 600mg but he didn't elaborate why. I'm hoping DH can be his second!! He also said there was a possible add-on medication that DH could maybe try, but we are limited to what he can try because of his head injury and low sodium etc.

I thought people would be fed up of my menstrual cycle lol! No, I'm not due on, I'm about half way through my cycle!! My weight loss pattern since losing the twins seems to be a good loss then stay the same, so it may well have been inevitable, however I missed going to the gym yesterday with DH being in hospital and then I ate a snickers and a kitkat instead :o.

Re the tattoo, I am annoyed but on balance DH doesn't spend any money on alcohol, cigarettes, going out etc and he did save up his birthday and Christmas money. It's my choice to spend my birthday and Christmas money on the house/bills/kids etc so I have no one to blame but myself. Just can't bring myself to spend on me though when we are struggling. (Get the violins out!!). Xx

Glad DH is home, hopefully his consultant will be able to help on Monday

Just want to say you my dear are one of the nicest, unselfish people I have the pleasure to know and I so wish you every possible happiness

Staying the same is 100 times better than a gain and I think your body is holding onto its stores in times of crisis

  • Bless you Granny, what a lovely thing to say :A.

I certainly have enough stores though that my body doesn't need to hold on to any fat though!! There was a little old lady in the hospital yesterday who only weighed 4 stone 9lbs. I need to lose that little old lady!!! Literally :rotfl:.

Mind, there were some sights in the hospital!! Like the lady kicking off as there were no free biscuits with the free tea/coffee on the ward, and the man complaining that they could only offer him a (free) sandwich not a hot meal at 9pm at night. He even asked it they could toast the cheese sandwich they gave him!!! Do these people think they are in a hotel?!. The worst bit was he then proceeded to dunk said cheese sandwich in fresh orange juice bleurgh, and alternate each mouthful of juice soaked sandwich with a spoonful of yogurt <insert pukey smiley>!! Then there was a proper fight in the car park over a parking space and 2 police riot vans and 2 police cars turned up. It was like a live episode of Jezza Kyle

If you're not entitled to eat chocolate with all you've had going on lately, then I don't know when you are.

    Take care of yourself. Xxx

^^^ Agreed; the supportive power of chocolate in stressful situations is well known, lol. ;)

Glad to hear DH is back home, Lucky; hope you both got a decent night's sleep.

Been thinking about a comment you made recently; how DH's seizures tend to come at roughly three month intervals.
To me, this suggests that there's either a gradual build-up of certain trace elements in his brain, or a slow loss of same because he can no longer assimilate or produce the correct balance himself.

So I would look at the background stuff. In particular, does DH consume low-cal fizzy drinks which are sweetened with aspartame rather than sugar? Aspartame has been implicated in a wide range of health problems, including causing epilepsy in otherwise healthy people (personally I think the stuff should be controlled in the same way as alcohol, and completely banned in food/drink for children - which won't happen because the main producer of said fizzy drinks is one of the richest corporations on the planet).

An ingredient in 'energy drinks' also affects the brain chemistry; taurine. It's an essential trace element, but having too high or too low a level causes problems..

Another suspect ingredient common in take-away and ready-meals is the infamous MSG.

Given the high dose of medication DH is taking - which almost certainly has side effects - I can't help wondering what's happening in his 'chemical soup'?
You already know DH has problems maintaining his sodium levels. Have you asked whether any particular foods should either be included in his diet, or avoided, in order to help maintain a healthy balance?

Hmm. Something to think about before seeing the consultant on Monday..
  • Great advice Robin! I gave up aspartame as did my sister, nearly every single one of her fibromalgyia (sp?) symptoms have disappeared within a couple of months of changing her diet to eliminate this horrible chemical! If i fancy a fizzy drink now I will drink full fat (I know this is bad for you too but every now and then I just fancy one and as I see it normal sugar is better than that stuff).

Do you live in the ghetto :rotfl:. Seriously though  and :rotfl: at the hospital antics!

As for the chocolate it's allowed when we're stressy, it's the unwritten law for women ;) so you can forgive yourself on that one!

Hope today is a better day xx
