  • Thanks for all the messages everyone, Happy New Year one and all . DH and DS1 didn't make it past 10.30pm last night!!

Today has been a nice start to the new year and a fairly LSD. We went to a charity event in the next village and watched a load of lunatics doing a wheel barrow race (DH has announced he wants to do it next year ), DS2 had a pony ride and both boys had a hot doughnut. Including a donation to the charity bucket our spends were less than £5. The rain held off just long enough too.

This afternoon we put our Christmas decorations away. While we were in the loft we got the next size clothes down for DS2. Unbelievably there were 7 black bags full!! Perks of having older cousins in the family and children of the same gender! House now resembles a Chinese laundrette, but DS2 is sorted for the year ahead :D.

  • Sounds as though you have had a lovely day and loving all the free clothes, very :money:.
  • I used to love it when the kids were small and got hand me downs. DD got them from a friend who actually had a younger girl but who insisted that styles changed !! Eejit :rotfl: buy hey I was happy to take the stuff from her. My DD looked fab all the time for next to nothing.

It has been monsoon weather here today. Roads closed due to major flooding etc. Thankfully we live up a hill

  • That's ridiculous MiT! Styles change indeed!! My 2 are 5 years apart and so far there is nothing I wouldn't dress DS2 in that DS1 wore and half the stuff was his cousins before that who is 3 years older again. Good news for you that she was so stupid though!!

We had very heavy rain yesterday afternoon/evening but it seems to have disappeared today. We have been assured it will be back tomorrow though.

This morning we are leaving the boys with MiL so we can go to the gym. Not exactly a relaxing time off but really appreciate getting the chance to go. Might take the boys to softplay this afternoon and book DS1's party while we are there. He hasn't had a party before, we've been able to avoid it with him just being little, but he's been asking to have one this year as all his friends at nursery having been having them. Last year we were snowed in on his birthday so I've put off booking anything incase it happens again, but according to the longer term forecast (if you can believe it) we will still just have rain by then (19th). I spoke to the girl at softplay last time and she said if we had to cancel due to the weather anyway, we'd just lose the £20 deposit. Seems a better option than to book the village hall and an entertainer, then buy and prepare all the food, only to have to cancel if we get snowed in.

    Morning PLMBL,

Wow to all those clothes for DS! My DD has lots of DD1's old clothes but we dont know anyone else to get things passed on from. Now shes at school she doesnt need so many thankfully!

Its funny that you have been looking at the long range forecast for the party as ive done exactly the same! My DD's party is on the 18th and I just wanted to make sure we were ok after the bad weather last year!

Have a nice time at the gym! xx

  • Happy new year PLMBL! Snow! Only lots and lots of rain up here!

Sometimes you need to cut your loses and £20 sounds not bad compared to what you could lose! x
  • Mummy that's so funny that you've done the same with the forecast, but it really was truly terrible that time last year wasn't it?? We were totally cut off and it ended up being just the 4 of us eating party food and building snowmen as none of the family made it over to us! Bad Weather I went ahead and booked the party :D.

Gym was hard work but I feel good for going (apart from feet playing up tonight :(). This afternoon we made it to a surprisingly quiet softplay which I think the boys needed.

DH has been a bit short tempered today and quite down on himself. Very frustrating Xx

I know and everything was the best of stuff so I wasn't complaining. Some people just have more money than sense.

Our weather has been awful. The local river has burst its banks and tomorrow has to be even wetter. Thankfully I live up a hill :D

  • Great news on all the clothes, My DS1 is the eldest grandchild on both sides so no hand me downs :( . DD is the same age & size as one of her cousins & her older girl cousin doesn't give us anything as it all goes to DD's cousin of the same age (2 mums are dh's sisters) and DS2 has an older cousin but again we see none of the clothes from him. I love hand me downs, free and usually good quality, especially considering we're happy to buy their clothes from charity shops anyway ;)

We had torrential rain this morning and our patio flooded (again, thanks to DH's dodgy attempt at paving!). I'd like to go out as i'm bored, bored, bored. But i've already spent most of the money this month on new hoovers and suchlike :o so need a frugal month! Typical when usually January is expensive as entertainment is never free for indoorsy type things.

    :)
