Hi,
I am still a little confused on tax forms for mystery shopping. Say I am reimbursed £35 for a meal and I spend the full £35 do I claim this £35 back as expenses - please help!
You may claim for the meal as an expense if you got a fee with it.
E.g. £20 Fee and £30 reinbursment
As you had to order (and pay) for the food to get the fee
If you just get £40 to spend on fee and no fee then NO. As it's seen as 'benefited'. You've done the job for the meal, not for the money.
If it's £5 for the fee and £50 meal, this is a grey area. If you claim for the meal Mr Tax man may say, where is the profit in traveling 20 miles, spending 2 hours out, doing a half hour report? You would then have to prove to Mr Taxman it was for the fee not for the 'free' meal.
(although current arguments could include you took a job like this to get on the right side of a company for further, more profitable work).
The grey area depends on how confident you are that A. Mr Tax man will no knock at your door and B. You can convince him your right.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -

I tend to take meals if I wanna spoil the other half and pay a bit of tax on it and I do pay tax on petrol calls too coz I use it for other calls x0 -
By the way, since this pops up often, should we put THIS in the new op? It comes up quite often and then at least people get a better idea of the debate involved since it's not a clear cut answer.
Spent ages finding the dam thing lolI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
Did someone say the old man's pizza is changing hands? I've got one booked with the original agency for a couple weeks time. Where's it going to?0

Frontline focus have it but I know MF has been putting out calls for it lately but I missed the fees and reimbursements. Frontline give full reimbursement and a fee but you have to pick certain type pizzas.0
