School appeals - help offered

Possibly off topic but do "governing body" VA schools and LEA controlled schools behave the same for intake?
I note on the documentation sent out for primary school places that none of the Faith / VA schools took a single child on catchment, SEN or Medical / Exceptional.
They were all done on faith, sibling or distance.
I'm not personally bothered one way or the other, i just wondered if the criteria was different.0 -
Faith/VA schools can se their own criteria, so in the case of your local faith/VA schools all spaces will have been filled by faith, sibling or distance which will be higher on the criteria list, although looked after still usually comes first, but there aren't that many children in that criteria.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Also, I found this further up in the thread
"The crucial aspect is that in Reception there cannot by law be more than 30 with one teacher. So, if another child got in on appeal taking the number to 31 the school would be required to fund that extra teacher from current budget, which would affect resources for other children. That is the angle they will use at appeal, and really there is no way to counter that under the circumstances you detail"
Is this true?
There are 45 reception places at my school, so how would that work?0 -

Grocery Challenge £200 pm Jan £0/£200

Wouldn't other things like limits on numbers for fire assessment also come into it?
I assume all buildings / venues including schools have a finite number they can take for insurance / certification.
You can't just keep adding teachers and kids, ad infinitum if the building won't take it, i'd assume?0 -

The law states that it's a max of 30 in a reception class, but that does not mean that a class has to have 30, there will still be a max that each individual classroom can accomodate safely.
It's likely your school will have two classes split equally or I have also seen a split of one class of 30 older children and 15 summer children.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
