Can anyone shed any light on the general reliability of a Rover 75-this one is with a BMW engine apparently.
Basically I've spotted a clean low mileage one locally-not normally a car that I would consider but it does look nice.
2001 plate/80k/service history
I'm sure I've read somewhere issues on these regards head gaskets but not sure which models are affected?(Low coolant capacity if I remember correctly.)

Can anyone kindly give an honest 'review' this car for me-what to look for etc..

Many thanks as usual

Presumably if you are on about the Rover 75 with the bmw engine its a 2.0 diesel. It is the petrol k series engine that has the head gasket issues so dont worry about them but this engine does have problems of its own such as faulty turbos.

Generally not too bad a car, a bit (old man-ish) but actually quite a nice interior. Despite rover going bump there isnt any major problem getting hold of parts for it.

its an 11 year lump of a liability and trust me here they are at the end of the road
you will get lots of problems buying at this end from corrosion of the rear suspension to radiator leaks at the other end
unless its £500 leave it to another mug

They are a very very rare car, as most others have sucked the air swirl flaps in to the engine by now, it is a terminal failure.

If you mean vanes from a variable vane turbo, it won't happen to a 75 diesel as their turbos don't have them.

As far as I was aware the Rover 75 engine is the earlier 130ish bhp 2.0 diesel, which doesn't have the swirl flap issue.

The 320d using the M47 engine was known for eating turbos. The same M47 is fitted to the Rover 75, but with a different (less powerful, but much more reliable) turbo.

Rover 75 doesn't have any sort of swirl flaps in the inlet manifold (on the diesel) like you'd find on the equivalent 320d

Rear springs can break on any car, and I've not heard of any radiator problems...

    Both statements are rubbish.

Edit: To the original poster can you clarify what engine the car you are looking at has.

These are fantastic cars, often suggested as good as the jaguars of the era, but at well Rover Money. These are very reliable, take a look on mg rover org forum which is a really good.
As long as it drives alright and doesn't smoke it should be a good buy

I all most got one of these and did allot of reading on the diesels, main problems I read were the fuel pumps.

I still really like them but compared to my current Citroen they are a bit old old tech.

If its in good nick go for it, more info here.
