Beg, borrow, or steal one - on seconds thoughts, don't do the latter...

I'll see what I can do. I may just buy one or download a legal copy, if that's possible to do (and from a quick look around the internet, it's not!)0

Thanks.
I've downloaded Kaspersky Rescue Disk as per your link. When do I use this?0 -

try sending a pm to forum member Take This, he seems to have access to no end of windows disk images...include make & model of pc, and which type of COA you have on the machine...point him at this thread and tell him we sent you

That was for if you were going to try to clean the PC - All the info on how to use it is on the link I gave you. It's a bit of a waste of time if you're going to reinstall.

Only backup personal files - music, photo's etc - no .exe's or .scr's
Scan any backups before restoring.

I'm not sure yet. I may just go with it and see what happens. It appears I may have got rid of it as everything is as it was, but I understand it's a re-infector.try sending a pm to forum member Take This, he seems to have access to no end of windows disk images...include make & model of pc, and which type of COA you have on the machine...point him at this thread and tell him we sent you

If you're not going to reinstall windows, I suggest you hit it with every major tool you can put your hands on BEFORE you resume normal useage....you've already got a link to kaspersky rescue CD, but also hit it again with malwarebytes, then combofix, avira rescue cd, and probably the best one in these circumstances would be the Dr Web rescue cd (but be warned, this one can take MANY hours, like 10+, to do a full scan, but it will usually find stuff that others miss). Alternatively, if it's behaving prettynormally, just download Dr Web and run it from your desktop (but run rkill first if doing it this way).
The advantage of running things from cd is that nothing on your hdd (like infections) will be running, and so the tool can get on and do it's stuff without being interfered with

I've done Malwarebytes and avast. Now doing Microsoft Security Essentials. I will then try combofix,
Dr Web sounds good and will give that a go when i've done all the rest. Will look at Rkill too.0
