Computer is apparently sending files to microsoft

Just had an 'international' phone call to tell me that my computer is sending malicious files to microsoft.

And that within the next 2 days my computer will stop working. They repeatedly told me that they could show me proof of this by sending something to my computer if I was sitting in front of it.

Also going on about microsoft fining us.

They didn't speak very good english do did have a hard time trying to understand what they were saying.

I asked for the companies name at which they said tech pro support and got 0208 144 out of them before they ended the phone call.

I asked for the companies name and phone number.

Should I be concerned about this as is my computer sending files to mircosoft and getting into trouble?

I reckon it was 1 of these scams to gain access to your PC(or do something they shouldnt) by sending you a file(what you were told was the evidence). As long as your anti virus et all is up to date i wouldnt worry.

You should be concerned that you did not realise that this is a well publicised scam, which you should simply ignore.

  • Whilst I didn't say yes ok show me the proof I did think that surely the only way to do so was then ask for personal details about my computer in order to gain access to it.

Found it convient that they ended the phone call half way through giving me the companies phone number.

  • I have never heard anything about this kind of scam and this is my 1st phone call about anything to do with my pc.

Its not like I gave away any details, its why I asked for the companies name and phone number and told them that I would like to look into it myself.

Then of course the phone call suddenly ended from them.

They're trying to scam you out of something.

they're not associated with, or acting on behalf of, Microsoft.

Your computer will still be working two days from now.

    Ignore them.

So how do you think that they got your phone number from these files supposedly sent from your PC then?

    Think about it!

Try to stick to one thread or things will get confusing for people trying to help.
