Ask 100 Windows computer users (that aren't reasonably technical) and I dare say 50 of them at least would say they're having some sort of computer problem, whether it's slow internet, or some other pop up, constant windows updates that they ignore, expired antivirus alert or such like.
So, a scammer has a reasonably fair chance of calling someone randomly who also has a computer and also happens to have some sort of computer problem.

why not back up your files onto a flash drive and then factory format the computer with the recovery program which if its a dell, acer, asus, HP would have been installed by them.
Factory reinstall takes it back to the day you bought it.
recovery takes it back to whenever you tell it.
You should have made some discs when you bought it and it asked you to make the recovery discs first time use.0 -

What percentage of average users actually do this, I wonder. I imagine very few, and of those that do, how many put it/them away "somewhere safe", never to be seen again. How do I add a signature?0 -
I also think they are going to scam you. Beware0

Definitely a very long running scam. I think the going rate to cure your pc is £200 - they will ask you to sit at the puter and perform actions which will allow them remote control.
Just tell them you have a MAC if they ring again.0
