Aldi started accepting credit cards throughout the country from mid October.

Does anyone know if Santander will pay the 1% cashback because this link only shows five stores in Wales that qualify for cashback

Well I don't know where you got your information from, but I received this secure message from Santander this evening:

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately Aldi supermarkets are not currently on our cashback list.

Thanks for emailing Santander, Cardew.

I think their reply is ambiguous to say the least.

Aldi are on their cashback list but not all of their branches.

And where is ALDI - LONDON?

I am new to the Santander 123 credit card. Does shopping at supermarkets online earn cashback? If I do a search on, for example, Waitrose, it only lists actual stores, not "Waitrose online".

Also, I think a claim that all major department stores are included in the 2% category is false, as M and S is not listed. Only under supermarkets for 1%. Does this mean that clothes purchased at M and S would earn 1% cashback, or just that food purchased there earns cashback?

They pay cashback based on the store's MCC (merchant category code) set by Mastercard.

Aldi is presumably set up on one of the supermarket MCC's so cashback will be paid at 1% there. M&S are set up as a supermarket so you earn 1% on purchases, not 2%.

The list that Santander have available is just a marketing tool and has no actual relevance to the cashback earned, if the transaction has the correct MCC cashback will be paid. The staff are pretty clueless about the whole thing really.
