but i think we have found the reason for the keenness tomorrow

If you are concerned (and it sounds as if you might have reason to be) only accept cash or a banker's draft before parting with the car and documents.

Not what the bank told me when I moved from one bank to another. The bank I closed with told me not to loose it as they won't replace it because its the same as cash (even though its in my name) and the next bank said it's guaranteed to clear because it's a bankers draft.

But they can be fake/stolen, so always check with the issuing bank that's it's genuine before accepting them in payment.

Judging by the amount of Kia Picantos for sale, and by doing a bit of research, it should be priced around £1500.
If the OP has it priced between £1000 and £1400 then someone out there will be keen to have a look at it.
  • Small cars are in demand at the moment, I recently sold an 09 reg Chevrolet Matiz, people were calling me from all over the country, I sold it to a guy who came all the way from Cornwall about 200 miles and paid the asking price, if you are not asking silly money then you will get plenty of interest.

dont accept a bankers draft - they have known be be forged so they have the car and you have no money. If they are paying in cash and you have doubts about them spend a few quid on one of the smart pens that checks the cash is legal tender.

While it's true that bankers drafts can be forged or stolen. I'm not convinced that someone with the capability to do that, would be wasting their skills/time/collection-of-stolen-drafts to acquire a 1.5 grand Kia.

Any scams the OP is likely to receive are the kind that don't require someone to turn up at the door, such as the old classic of here's a dodgy cheque in the post, please send me the change by western union as I'm in Nigeria. I'll then arrange for someone to collect the car.

They tried that one on me when I was selling a knackered old Volvo 940 for £400. Would've cost more than the car was worth to send it to Nigeria.

That said, if this person does turn up. Only accept cash, or accompany them to the bank when they ask for the draft to be issued.
  • Are people confusing Bankers Draft with Bank Transfer, the later is a perfectly accpetable way to pay for a car, however, in this instace I would be inclined to only accept cash.
