  • Always. It happens several times a day round here due to narrow country roads.

Must be the odd one out. I do if its just me passing through but would not if i'm in a row of cars all passing through, even if i am at the beginning or end.

I'm more put off by (knowing) drivers anger when a thanks is not receieved.

This and always have...however. When I sat my PSV test many years ago, my instructor drummed into me not to wave/flash at other drivers. Passed the test ok. The examiner then went on to rant at me for not thanking a driver who had stopped to let me back into test centre. I did explain my reason though and I think my instructor got a bit of lecture...lol

Oh my Goodness, this is an issue which makes my blood boil.

I also live at one end of a country lane and travel the lane a few times every day, frequently having to pull over to allow passing cars etc, and I reckon about 70% of people are charming and acknowledge my stopping and allowing them to pass with a brief wave, smile or thumbs up.
The other 30% sail past, almost ALWAYS old men, eyes straight ahead, completely ignoring me, because of course, as a woman in my little car, I SHOULD pull over to allow them, king of the road, to drive past without obstruction.

Winds my up sooooo much, and once they're past me, there's nothing I can do! If, in real life, a man sailed past me through a door I was holding open for them and completely ignored me in a similar fashion, I would (and have on many occasions!) say something along the lines of "My Pleasure Sir, glad to be of service" in a sarcastic tone. This often elicits a sheepish glance back in my direction and an acknowledgement of my existence.

But in a car I am voiceless, and I can't toot my horn in case cars in front think I'm tooting at them!

But why can't people just be polite? What would it cost them? And what are they thinking when they ignore someone who is helping them???

    Grrrrrrr :rotfl:

Being a minibus driver (long wheel base) I am forever thanking kind souls who let me out of places, and let me pass on roads, escpecially as it's quite rural here so lots of small roads! I like it, makes me feel nice inside when people are kind enough to let me out/pass, but I'm sad like that! :)

Yes, always! It really annoys me when I'm not thanked when letting people past.

Yep, particularly if I'm on the bike. They may not have right of way but it doesn't stop some from barging past anyway and it doesn't take any effort at all to just raise your hand and indicate your thanks.

    This.

I will not wave, however, if someone decides their car is 3 feet wider than it is and stops for me when the road is perfectly wide enough for both of us. Usually some old person unfamiliar with the country roads or driving her husband's car.

Interesting. In my experience it is women, especially young women, who are more likely not to acknowledge when I have pulled in for them.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I most certainly do say thankyou and if I stop to let someone out/pass and they don't acknowledge me I shout THANKYOU as loudly as I can as they pass..

I always wave a thank you if a driver stops to let me out or pass, whoever's right of way it is.

    It's only polite.

This is my experience also. I would add middle aged women driving metallic grey Mercedes too.
