Not really chap.
If an AO in the top band gets promoted his or her wages cannot drop so would be in the EO2 band higher than their current salary. This anomaly is currently being looked at by the big wigs. Talks are due to now start with the Finance Minister about it.
I wouldnt give up. It can take a wile sometimes to get a job in the civil service.0 -
adding 1 + 1 and getting three, probably due to frustration at waiting lol. Hopefully hear something soon, anything's better than retail :rotfl:0

If you're struggling with the speed that you get into the civil service at, 'wait' until you start working here!0

Starting to get skeptical about the actual purpose of the competition to begin with. There are loads of AOs who are on a higher basic salary than EOIIs (quite how that situation managed to arise is beyond me), and a good few acting as temporary EOIIs aswell. Call me cynical, but it would be terribly handy for NICS to promote the high-earning AOs into EOII positions to help the pay problem go away.
I often hear this quoted but don't think it's correct; I believe only 9% of all grades are now on the maximum.
Under the terms of the Equal Pay deal in 2009 the maximum an AO could go onto was 20109.00 if they had been on the maximum of the old scale and had more than 6 years (& very few were AFAIK) in the grade (I think about 30% of all grades were on the maximum) which would leave them on 21490.00 in Aug 2011. (I think - see the tables in the link).
The minimum point for EO11 is 21392.00 but as there weren't any promotion boards since 2009 I don't think any existing EO11 is on the minimum, I expect most, if not all, are on at least 21924.00 if not 22456.00 by now.

Youre mistaken. There are quite a few AO's in my office on the max and quite a few EO2's on the minium. Any EO2 thats started in the past few years will be on the minimum.
Ive been in the civil service coming soon too 5yrs and im still on the bottom payscale. So a new start will get the same as me.
The payscales are a joke in here. There is no way to move up them based on performance or time in employment unless they adjust them like last year but sure I doubt they will this August.0 -
I think one of the most unfair things about the pay awards for the last number of years was removing the bottom point every time and therefore leaving experienced staff earning the minimum for the grade. Like you, many people in post 5 or more years were receiving exactly the same pay as a new recruit. I think this changed last year for the first time - I know I moved at last from point 3 to point 4 of my scale and I'm in post 10 years at my current grade. :T0

It didn't change. There are EOs and SOs that I know that have been in post for up to 8 years that are still on the bottom of the pay scale. There is no monetary benefit for their experience.Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -

Sorry it didn't change for the EOs and SOs that you know - that's strange because it did for the people I work with including people at those grades but perhaps it depended exactly where on the scale people were? I definitely moved up a point from 3 to 4 at the last increase.0 -

I believe everyone moved up a point on the scale but then the bottom point was dropped. So if you were on Point 1 you moved to Point 2, but then Point 1 was removed. Back to the bottom again!Norn Iron Club Member 3300
