I've now relisted, if they pay I can bomb the auction, but they won't.

I'd give the second chance offer against the cheque paying buyer now.

I've not offered a second chance as that bidder has since win another laptop.

I've had to leave positive feedback for the first two NPBs, commenting that they haven't paid, it's not a good system.

Yes. You said how payment was to be made and they are asking for another method. Why would anyone all to pay by cheque if you offer Paypal.

Either a scam attempt or they cannot ever pay by Paypal.

Thanks, I am really considering it, as if the second chance person doesn't take it up I can relist free today. I think I will canvas opinions on the Ebay thread.

I have just had a buyer ask can they pay by cheque for a high value item when it clearly says Paypal only on the listing.

Do not accept a cheque!! EVER!!!

You will cash the cheque, send the goods and the cheque will be recalled/cancelled/turn out to be fraudulent... and you will lose your money AND your item.

Ask them to send a Postal Order if they do not have a PayPal account.

So wrong you should not have left any feedback at all.
Open Non Paying Bidder dispute, set your preferences to block bidders with 2 NPB or more and they cant then bid on your auctions nor anyone else with the correct settings.

Already have those settings and have completed two of my NPB processes.

Only ever refused to pay once in hundreds of transactions and that is when I caught the seller shill bidding absolutely bang to rights, inflating the price by a couple of hundred quid.

Whicjh means buyers get the NPB strike overturned on a basic appela and you get a seller performance warning. Leaving a false positive is just about the worst thing a seller can do- it just removes the strike meaning the buyer can go on and keep doing this.

Really? Is there somewhere on the eBay site that confirms this is what can happen?

Ebay try to block feedback being left after the NPB process completes and it says that the sellers cannot leave me feedback as the auction went through this process. Are they really clever enough to work out whether they should remove the strike if the buyer appeals just because I was only able to leave a positive to give warning to other sellers? (Not all sellers set their options to two NPBs and some will be waiting out there as there are often other sellers in the same position).

If there was ever a time that eBay should allow a seller to be able to leave a negative, it's after the NPB process ends, even if it is just a default message from eBay; but I doubt I am the first (or last) to think that.
