In Ireland the card costs 10 euros and you get that back when you pay for your first booking with it......no brainer!

The issue for people living north of the border and flying from Dublin is that they have to take out a sterling Ryanair Cash Passport and then buy flights priced in euros, subject to 5.75% exchange rate commission.

Thanks for that - im such a dope - I can't get my head around it at all ! So does this mean that i'd nearly be as well just to pay the 48euro as we may end up getting charged something similar anyway ??? Maybe too much hard work judging by some of the comments for trying to obtain the ryanair card!

If your flights cost €522 you'll pay €30 exchange rate commission using the Ryanair cash passport.

The alternative is to pay €48 fee for using a debit or credit card.

If you know anyone south of the border with a Ryanair cash passport card get them to make the booking and you'll avoid all fees.

Caxton are switching all their prepaid cards from Mastercard to Visa so acquiring one of their cards will be of no use in these circumstances.

FairFX use Mastercard so could be an option.

Its all in the maths + the 5.75% exchange rate loading often makes this card a bad idea.
I wouldn't subject myself to all the hassle of getting + loading a Ryanair cash passport to save 18 Euro. Over time it could actually cost you more, with the inactivity fee + minimum £150 load etc etc

If you are going to a country that accepts an ordinary PP mastercard as free payment then fair enough ,get one of those, such as Travelex Globe card but as pointed out you are booking singles which can affect refunds if flights are cancelled
