I've tried loads of them however have found some actual real sucess with FM, a perfume/ costmetics company. The products are reasonably priced and offer a great recession busting alternative to the high street brands. No initial outlay, however optional sample packs are available from only £11 so not a rip off

Pampered chef is quite good, because you go into peoples home and cook for them. Good products too.

I thought about doing it, but my area is saturated!

It is a good concept but their products are overpriced and definitely overrated, I have been to quite a few parties to support my friends etc I do love going to them as I'm a professional caterer and have worked in the industry for a while so find it quite amusing to watch some of the reps do cooking:eek:, Ive had some very interesting food including burnt pizza bases with raw toppings, In my opinion, both Jamie at home and pampered chef are for those who are very confident of their cooking knowledge/skills and offcourse the product itself.

  • I became a Body Shop at Home consultant a month ago and I really enjoy it - all the parties I have done so far have really enjoyed them and I have had big orders placed. Commission works out at 25% of all orders. The only downside is I took it on to do part time in the evenings when the kids were in bed but I have enjoyed it so much and have had so much good response I have kind of let it take over my life a bit but the good part is I am enjoying it and earning enough pocket money for me for treats. Also being a consultant I get 25% off too - my house is resembling a body shop shop :0) x

Thought I would jump in here as direct selling is definitely a fantastic way to boost income and work around other commitments ie children, a full time job etc. However it isnt easy and it is true that you only get out what you put in. The key is to find something that you are passionate about and for me it was food, not the equipment to make/prepare food but a range of food itself by My Secret Kitchen. This wont suit everyone as you do have to have a love of cooking and as the products are all produced in the UK, with no addictives or preservatives etc they are comparable prices to waitrose which not everyone wants to pay. However in my opinion when people have tasted these products they seem to want them and my repeat sales are very high and we all have to eat so our company hasnt been effected by the recession at all - infact, the opposite.
Research your product and invest time in what you feel you can be yourself selling, this will be different for everyone of us on this thread.
You only get out what you put in and for me 2 years of enjoyable hard work now draw me a very decent part-time wage and rising.
I have also met the most lovely people from all different companies along the way and we all help each other.
Go with whatever you are thinking of joining and give it a go, you have nothing to loose and everything to gain x

I just had to jump in and praise the direct seller that I work for....PartyLite.....I am a Unit Leader with PartyLite which mean I have brought in and have successful consultants under me. I have tried Virgin Vie, Ann Summers and then some in the past and vowed never to touch another party plan company again...and now 2 years later I have loved every second of being with PartyLite, I meet a various age range of people because of the products we sell, I never paid a penny for my £300 kit and have still not paid a penny as I do all the promotions on every month for the free gifts. I love my job and I love the commission I earn....it really is second to none, but all that aside, it is hard work, parties do not just fall into you lap, you actually have to pick up the phone and make contact with people. Once our products are seen they are never turned down either.

Hope you have found the partyplan company that you wanted to :)

I agree with this, I looked into the pampered chef myself but felt there was no way I could make any money from what I felt were overpriced and somewhat pointless products. I have also heard bad things about Jamie at home.

I did Avon for 18 months and only made a small amount, I bought a lot of stuff for us like shower gels and handwashesso technically didn'thave tto pay outfor them but I think unless you really pound the streets you can't really make a lot although before I had my son I had a big territory and would makearound £20-50 a camp.

I also did a party plan that sold products for children under 5and although everything was reasonably priced I didn't get much interest for parties! So in a year I did two.pretty poor really!

  • i have been looking into this as well. however i dont have my car anymore as going back to uni. is this a major issue holding parties without a car?

I used to be a Vie at Home rep. I think with all of these direct selling companies, you get out what you put in. I did it part time along side my full time job, and did find it quite time consuming.

    Two pointers for you:

Don't 'treat' yourself to a product every time you order, or feel the need to own everything in the catalogue. Completely unnecessary and will eat away at your profits.

My other problem was that I didn't treat it properly like a business and keep a separate bank account. Looking back at my figures each year I should have made several £k if I'd my head screwed on. But in actual fact I've nothing to show for it :o
