If your nearest neighbours can't help, then you need to start looking near to your work place. What about asking your work colleagues if they know anyone who could help?
Its really not fair on the pup to leave it like that.

Aw, I feel for you, honey, it is heartbreaking, but maybe you know what you have to do, a wee puppy is very easy to rehome and it may be the fairest thing to do. They adapt very quickly at that age and would settle into a new home without any problems, I am sure. You however will feel sad for ages :(

But talk to as many people around you as you can to see if you can find a solution - maybe someone near to your work could help?

Consider all the options, but you know you have to put the puppy's welfare before your own.

    Big (((hugs)))

Thankyou so much for your kind words.

I think as much as I will be upset I think i am going to have to make this heartbreaking decision. I just want him to be happy and have a great life and if I cant provide that then I need someone else who will.

oh god im getting emotional even writing this , But like you say just need to put him first

    hmmmmm so hard ! :(

Are you able to take him back to the breeder?Although,I'm wondering why the little mite came to you at 11 weeks?

If you were near me I'd take the little darling ;)
If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?
  • Hmmm i dont know if the breeder will take him back, It wasnt like a proper breeder just someone who had had a litter of puppies so I dont think they would to be honest

God knows what to do. My own fault for it I blame myself 100 percent !

I wish you were my neighbour - I would love to dog-sit for you!

I actually help out my neighbours by walking their (3) dogs and it does me the world of good - gets me exercising and out in the fresh air.

So don't despair - look into your options, starting with your neighbours!

That's just me too, Id be really happy to help, just for those reasons alone
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • personally i wouldnt get a dog if i was out all day and there was noone to look after it

you say you live rurally, could you secure the garden and possibly get a second dog so they both have company, especially in summer id expect the dog/dogs to far prefer being in a garden whilst your out(if properly fenced) with a shed or doghouse for them to go in

this is not a good idea -the pup needs to bond with its owner, not just with another dog. doing this caould lead to all sorts of problems.

Also, chihuahuas are attractive to thieves...

Could you contact your local volunteer bureau? There might be a mental health charity or learning disability charity that are looking for activities for their clients to do, and you might find somewhere where someone would like to take the dog for a walk once a day for a couple of pounds. That would be better than nothing.

You say you work in to the evening, what about a teenager looking for some extra pocket money after school and something to put on their CV? You could put a notice up in the local post office.

Or post him here to keep my pooch company ;)

OP I have no idea where you got your research from that says you can leave a pup (or indeed a dog) for 9 hours on its own, but quite frankly you need to ignore anything else that website is saying.

You've now got this pup, so you have to deal with it. Someone has suggested finding a dog minder near where you work, this seems a sensible option, or alternatively someone on the way to work.

It concerns me that your first thought is to get rid of the dog. You don't appear to have done any research on how much it would cost you for a dog walker or dog minder, or indeed where any ones local to you would be. To me this suggests that you're having second thoughts about owning a dog, rather than thinking about the dog being left alone.

If this is the case you need to rehome this poor pup as soon as possible. You don't appear to have done much homework anyway - a breeder who is someone who just had a litter of puppies is not a breeder, it's an irresponsible dog owner. There will have been no health checks done, so this pup could be a potential massive ongoing vet's bill. Or not.

Apologies if I sound harsh, but you seem far too engrossed with your feelings and have not thought at all before getting this poor little animal. Rehome to someone who will care for him properly.

Additionally, has this pup been vaccinated?

With the hours you do would it be possible to find someone of school age to pop in after school? It would be a fraction of the cost of a dog walker. I paid a local elderly gentleman £5 a day and he came daily to walk my dog which was also a lot cheaper than local agencies. I would have got a school leave but I had standard office hours so wasn't worth it I needed someone to come midday.
