Can you imagine sitting in a room, for 7/8/9 hours a day, every day for the the next 50 years.

Have a word with the neighbour, puppies can be so much fun.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I do that, for longer hours, and trust me it's no fun!!!!!!

Op,talk to your neighbours or find someone who can help if you really want to keep him.If not it's not really fair on him and you'll never housetrain him.I know it will be hard to give him up and chi's are soo tiny and cute, but it would be best.

You never know though, there may be someone who can help. Can you afford to pay for any if you can't find someone close by who'll do it just for the pleasure?

  • Where did you do your research? Leaving a puppy alone for that amount of time is not on and shouldn't have been encouraged.

I agree to ask your neighbors if they could pop in and check on him. I wouldn't be asking them to have him at theirs as he is not house trained and I think you'll find it hard to get someone to agree to train your pet for nought.

I wish you were my neighbour - I would love to dog-sit for you!

I actually help out my neighbours by walking their (3) dogs and it does me the world of good - gets me exercising and out in the fresh air.

So don't despair - look into your options, starting with your neighbours!

A puppy that small doesn't have to be a lot of trouble, the Op could buy a small kiddies playpen that the dog sitter could put it in if it was misbehaving or they couldn't be watching it. It will only be tiny even when fully grown
  • The problem with my neighbours is I live very rural, I only have the choice of 3 neighbours, the old lady next door is very elderly and cant walk at all really so I wouldnt like to put that responsibilty on her. The house next to me is empty and the other house is an older couple that live their and they are out quite a lot too.

I just feel backed into a corner like theres nothing I can do, Totally distraught, I feel so stupid for putting a puppy through this.

We all know how hard it is to resist a pup though :)

Aw, I feel for you, honey, it is heartbreaking, but maybe you know what you have to do, a wee puppy is very easy to rehome and it may be the fairest thing to do. They adapt very quickly at that age and would settle into a new home without any problems, I am sure. You however will feel sad for ages :(

But talk to as many people around you as you can to see if you can find a solution - maybe someone near to your work could help?

Consider all the options, but you know you have to put the puppy's welfare before your own.

    Big (((hugs)))

I have had a few of my neighbours who have offered to have my dog for me or walk him.
He is well trained though, and getting on a bit now, but even in his younger days, I would have been able to find someone to have him.

If five days is too much for one person, see if there are a few people who would share the looking after.

Take him with you when you go to ask them, let them see what a cutie he is and think about a playpen that they can put him in if he gets too much for them.

He needs company during the day though, someone needs to be there to get him housetrained, he can't use puppy pads forever and he needs walks and interaction, just having a cat for company is not enough.

What would happen if, as he gets older, he and the cat start fighting and one gets hurt?. There needs to be someone there to deal with it. Just because they get on now, doesn't mean they always will, they are both young at the moment.
