equifax!! problem

Hi all . just spent a bit of time trying to get a copy of my credit report from equifax . Registered as a new member , put in all my details etc etc , then put in payment details and on the last screen it asks me to phone up their call centre with a unique number to verify account.

I then spent 15 minutes speaking to someone who couldnt understand me and I struggled with their grasp of english ( I am not a rascist or a bigot lol) who at the end of the call asked me to post 2 utility bills to them before verifycation of the account could proceed !! I undully lost it big time and cancelled it before it could go any further as I found this to be absolutley crazy . I have a membership with experian but decided to save a few precious pounds by checking out a cheaper competitor to alas no avail !!

Its back to experian for me unfortunatley and I am wondering has anyone else had this problem in the past.

No it's not just you. I had the same thing happen with me. I have a feeling that I lost it a little too much though, as they ended up hanging up on me.

If experian can verify who I am without additional ID, why can't equifax?
I have also successfully applied for a credit card & a bank account, both of which managed to electronically verify my identity.

I believe Equifax have farmed off their first line call staff to Manila. You will find a similar experience if you call up T-Mobile who made the same stupid business mistake and atrocity against their customers. The difference being you can dump T-Mobile but you are stuck with Equifax and their decision to use a naff offshore call centre because you can't choose which CRAs your personal information is pushed onto.

    Snap!

Exactly the same scenario for me last year, I too told them where to stuff it and joined Noddle, now I get a monthly report free.
  • I have a free account with noddle, but there were a few extra things that showed up on my £2 experian report. Noddle, for instance, show no financial associations, whereas experian show me as linked to my ex on a joint mortgage application.

I can see now why the advice is to check all three of them.

I have had a similar experience.

Registered then smelt a rat so called up immediately to cancel and was told no problem.

A month later I was charged for service.

I phoned them to be informed that I couldn't cancel until I had sent i.d.- something I did not want to do as I felt mislead already.

Anyway after phoning again I was again told exactly the same thing even though I said that it seemed amazing they could take payments butnot cancel or do refunds without my i.d. Was then told how to upload everthing but when I tried today my name was not registered online.

I have just got off the phone again and after being repeatedly told to do the same thing or sign up again i finally mentioned how it is illegal to take money without my consent and the distance selling period of 7 days.

I have now been told that all money will be returnes- (two months fees) and everything has been cancelled... I await my email with baited breath.

Thankfully say no to 0870 has saved over an hours calls to an 0845 number.

P.S. cancellation email recieved from them by the time it took to proof read this
  • Yes I too am VERY ANGRY with Equifax !!! GRRR:mad:

I have a credit card that allows me 2 fee equifax reports per year anyway....equifax sent me an e mail saying there had been a change on my credit file...naturally I was curious as to what this was....I am no racist in any way but these people were SO HARD to understand !!! and after several calls i was finally told to send them a current utility bill to confirm my identity which i did...still my account remained locked....after another difficult call they then told me that in fact the only way they would in fact unlock my account was FOR ME TO SEND THEM A GOVERNMENT ID !! either a copy of my PASSPORT, DRIVING LICENCE OR MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE !! well i told them there was NO WAY:( I was prepared to do this !!! I would answer any questions they may have but I did not understand why they needed such infomation when no other financial organisation I have come accross (including CPP etc) would require such information to unlock my account ??? I even told them that I had now found my password if they could reset it to what it was before but the answer contines to be NO ??? I dispair with EQUIFAX altogether and would advise others to steer well clear,,

Why would you need to do that, the free service (I assume Capital One card) allows 2 free reports per year and the alerts service. If you get an alert you just need to sign on to the online service and can view the alert = no need to sign up for anything or even call them. Forgotten password can also be sorted online.
