It was the fact that he had lied to me initially about not being a trader and on inspecting the service history, it was overdue a major service..........why was he selling it so cheap compared to others? I did not want to take the risk that I was going to be ending up with a huge repair bill. It may have all been legit but I can't afford to lose any money unnecessarily!
Not as silly as I was thanks to MSE:)

The one thing I would be concerned about is the main dealer service history. These guys tend to shove as many cars through in a day as they can, cutting-corners as they go.

When buying cars that have had a main dealer cambelt change, it is critical to check to make sure they did the tensioners and water pump at the same time. This is a common corner-cutter. They know that by just doing the belt the tensioners will fail within 25000 miles and they can then make a killing fixing the engine.

Btw, a lot of modern cars (inc. Ford diesels) use a 'Dual Mass Flywheel' this is designed to protect the clutch/gearbox.driveshafts from being destroyed by the torque from the engine. They should be replaced after 60,000 miles. If they are not, then you will have a massive bill when it fails.
You can buy a solid flywheel kit which includes new clutch plate and stronger clutch activator for the same costs as the DMF on its own. This eliminates any further problems.
