so hes told you what you want to hear:T
well you go and help the black economy and do proper motor traders out of business
but dont come back here next month saying car wont start pump gone £2000 bill wheres me soga
youve heard all the warnings:):)
caveat umpar
+1
Trader masquerading as a private seller means when something goes wrong they wont want to know.
As hes a fly-by-night merchant if there is anything wrong it will have been concealed rather than repaired, or repaired in the cheapest way possible.
He has no reputation to worry about, so he wont give a monkeys if that little 'ding' noise the engine makes when cold that he knows about when you dont turns into a major failure in a months time.
Either buy from a trader OR from a private seller, not a guy like this.

As Alias says...........what can I expect for £2k.
What you can expect for £2K is potentially a time bomb of misery and expense.
Not much point in saving a few pounds now to be out £1,000 if / when something major goes wrong.0 -
pics look extremely similar to those i see on traders pages!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Funny, because we've seen people on here who've bought a £500 car from a small back street trader and when it breaks down thats certainly not the approach they take.0 -
Thank you to all who have posted, although I felt that some of the posts were overly censorious as I stated that I would walk away from the deal if I was not happy. It was never a given that I was going to buy it! Anyway, went to see it, asked lots of questions and turns out that he is a trader, although he implied that because he did not sell from a forecourt etc that he was not a 'proper' trader. Needless to say, I walked away!
Thank you for alerting me to that fact........was a classic case of being to good to be true!!
On with the search then, think I need to save up another £500 so I can look for legit cars! Still want the c-max though, as alternative was Renault Scenic, and that seems to be a big no no from what I've read on here! Not as silly as I was thanks to MSE:)0 -

Have you reported this to autotrader then, in the interests of making life a bit harder for him?0 -

and trading standards
and autotrader
and hmrc
and customs and excise
and the council (looks like a council house so he will be breaking his tenancy agreement)
of course it would have been nice for sillygirl to push the thanks button for people like me and pgli who are proper traders and give good genuine advice to private buyers when often we are probably shooting ourselves in the foot and losing a sale if some posters are unbeknown local to us
but what the heck
its only time and energy trying to help people who are heading for a fall
i often think i come on here for other peoples amusement0 -

Wow.......am sorry if I have upset you, I certainly appreciated your advice and took it on board. I just felt a bit patronised.......but maybe its just the problem with writing on a forum rather than talking. As for using the thanks button, I often forget to use it, and apart from the original post was using my phone which is a nightmare to use for things like this. I will go back and 'thank' you now.Not as silly as I was thanks to MSE:)0 -
Sorry have I missed something-was there an issue with the car that made you walk away or the fact that he was a trader?:j0
