I agree with Justjohn, ask your girlfriend to contact HMRC directly, and confirm the tax situation. It will probably be quicker, as HMRC can drag their feet, and you will have some peace of mind. I hope it is just a mix -up and everything will be resolved.
I fear the worst. Once you've started along this road of paying cash then impossible to back out.
The employer has filed incorrect annual returns etc, not deducted or paid across tax or national insurance contributions on the employees wage. Nor paid employers NIC either.
From this arises the issue of the business accounts. As the wages would have not been declared in these. So this leads me to believe that sales haven't been declared either. As the "cash" hasn't been booked through the accounts. Which leads to VAT declaration issues.........
A hefty hefty fine for the employer.........0 -
I hope everything works out for you...0

Even with an accountant can all this be overlooked and fiddled?0

Man this sucks. The financial advisors called yesterday to ask where. The SOE is so we had to say its in the hands of hmrc.
We are getting a definitive answer from her boss today! And then we will call hmrc and see if there is anything we can do. This just seems so annoying and don't want something that's out of our hands to destroy the mortgage.0 -

What happened with this????
Hi there,
Sorry I've been away over the past few days. Her boss asked her for her current address, NI number and any current details to confirm on his records, then posted of his P60's to HMRC after they asked for the specific details.
This is happening today, so we shall hear in the next few days I should imagine. Kinda sounds positive...0 -
Hi again,
Well, we were nearly there... does anyone know the best place to send documents to them for processing? P60's payslips etc...
HMRC said to send it to HMRC (vague) and it will take 4-5 weeks. But wondered where to send it and if there are different HMRC offices...
Obviously I'm desperate to get this done so I will be calling every other day to find out if they have done it...
thanks!0 -

The employer should know. Their responsibility to file them. Why are you sending them?0
