I recently bought a new wheel for our Elecrolux vacuum and it was much cheaper to buy it from the manufacturer than from Espares.
If it was me I would be fitting the new part to the old machine.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

As others have said, you can always wash up by hand while you save for a new dishwasher. They are hardly essential appliances. I have never had one in any property in which i have lived.

That is a matter of opinion.

Neither is a washing machine on that basis.

Same with a fridge or freezer. Buy your food and milk daily.

I think a washing machine (or a fridge freezer/cooker) is far more important than a dishwasher. To wash your dishes, you don't need to carry a huge bag of washing to the nearest launderette, find the right coins and waste your free time sitting and watching it.

Back in the day, my mum used to hand wash clothes in the bath. Took forever and a day for them to dry though.

Ahhh - but thats the thing - once you have one you never want to do without.

The way i see it you spend so much less time washing up and to be able to do other things i would always have one - even if it meant borrowing the money.

    Absolutely ...
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

My old dishwasher broke recently and I replaced it with a beko dwd5411 for £199. It's amazing, so quiet compared to the old one. So you don't need to spend any more than £199 if you ask me!

I still say that I would replace a fridge freezer/ washing machine/cooker if they broke but not a dishwasher. However if the replacement would cause me to go into debt, I would buy the replacements from a charity furniture shop not new ones.

I know this is definitely not ideal, but is there any chance of getting the washer on interest free credit and then paying off in full after 6-9 mths?

That's what I did with my washing machine ... we couldn't afford the full payment at the time so got interest free credit and paid a £40 deposit.

Just gotta be sure to pay it back in time to avoid massive interest charges.

I did without one for a while (3 or 4 months) a couple of years ago - I'll never wait that long again, the first couple of weeks were okay, the rest was hell.

The problem you seem to have is that it is quite elderly and you say it's been making funny noises that you don't think are related to the arm - I think I'd be looking at trying a 0% cc or just biting the bullet.
