Yields are relatively low at the moment

Yields are actually pretty good right now.

My self-selected high yield shares are paying out 5.68% on purchase price and 5.19% on current price, and the FTSE 100 as a whole is on about 3.6%
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I was comparing to the 6-7% I have got in the past! My portfolio is delivering about the same as yours and it's still better than cash - keep ramping it *in the money that is*.

    *correction*

    Yields or total return?
    keep ramping it.

The very last thing I want to do is ramp the stock market. I *like* low prices 'cos I'm greedy.

This is something I've only just realised over the last few days. The stock market going up is a bad thing. The only people who want the price of something to go up are those looking to sell. I'm not looking to sell.

I want it to crash! And stay low for years! Then go up tenfold the day before I retire ... :D

Cant go along with that. I have a target of price im looking for and in what timescale. If I reach the price early and have no good reason to have moved the target then I get my money early. It can now go into another investment opportunity.

I remember several famous horse races where the horse who was there to set a pace slipped the field and went on to win. OK remember more who didnt :rotfl:
I believe past performance is a good guide to future performance

Only if you plan to buy an annuity. If you intend to remain invested, low prices mean that any dividends you don't need to draw upon buy more shares.

Low shares prices and high yields are the gift that keeps on giving.

Yea but that begs the question why heck arent they going to buy a high yield stock that regularly does so.
Unjustified fear or misplaced must be present for it to be good value so we are talking about contrarian investing.

The whole world is in bonds, are they all wrong. The only conclusion is a massive adjustment occurs sometime

Dunno why they didn't before, but sadly, this style of investing is getting trendy nowadays. Worrying!

As I'm short on most "safe" government bonds, bring it on!
