Maybe not, but I haven't had my jewellery and my money nicked.

That's naughty! You can't deem T-Sil culpable for these thefts because she chose to have a cleaner. By that token, no one would ever let anyone in their house - you'd never have your boiler fixed just in case the engineer swiped your kettle on the way out; you'd not let the gasman in to read the meter in case he shoved your laptop up his jumper as he was leaving, blah blah.

She also did what she could to protect herself; she used an agency and took references. Hardly reckless behaviour and she's not to blame if her things go missing.

Shall we all just agree that you are a far superior person to us mere mortals, and get on with helping OP with what she has asked?

    If you like. :D

This is more about not trusting anyone to be left alone in my house, not just a cleaner. Nobody has a key except my mum. If the boiler's being serviced, someone is there.
I'd love someone to dust my mantlepiece and iron my knickers but I don't trust anyone enough to let them do it.

No beration required casa pimento, Mr. pimento does the cleaning.

    But you said this...
I work full time and manage to keep my four bed house clean so I'd have no trouble with a two bed flat.

Don't you mean Mr Pimento would have no trouble with a two bed flat...? :D

You're still implying that it's T-Sil's fault her things have been stolen because she employed a cleaner in the first place. That's a pretty untenable thing to say.

The very first thing you should do is ask her. Not accuse, of course, but mention that certain things (and list them) appear to have been misplaced and now you can't find them.

If she hasn't taken them but moved them to somewhere she thinks is more sensible or secure she will tell you where they are. If she's taken them this would give her the opportunity to bring them back if she hasn't disposed of them already. If she has taken them and disposed of them she will know for sure that her card has been marked.

I once worked as a live-out nanny for a very wealthy family and a gold and diamond bracelet worth thousands went missing from the parent's bedroom. A room I only ever entered to put clean laundry on the bed. I was absolutely mortified that they thought I could have abused their trust in such a terrible way. The bracelet turned up eventually hidden in their toddler's bedroom. Then I could sleep soundly at night knowing that I wasn't mistrusted and under suspicion. I wouldn't ever wish an experience like that on someone totally innocent.

Most people in this world are trustworthy, it's just a pity we can't immediately identify those who are not.

He'd whizz through clickety-spit. He looks very cute in his pinny.

I'm the wage slave and he's the house husband. Role reversal works for us.

No, you're inferring that's what I'm implying and I'm not. I'm just saying I wouldn't trust any cleaner. That says more about me than the OP.

Fair enough. I certainly shouldn't have trusted mine. Bitch (her not you :D).

Pimento: you are giving every appearance of not being a terribly nice person. I daresay this was due to the very unfortunate way you chose to express yourself. Perhaps you would care to modify your posts to remove any doubt.
