That's not a bad idea. They were from quite a few people, and I bunched them altogether but I think about £300 of them were from my sports team mates, so maybe one of them bought them in one go.
I will look into that, thank you!

Definitley ask.. they must have a code?

John Lewis customer service are usually quite good, I am sure they would help you

Be interesting if they could pinpoint when, where and what the vouchers were spent on!

    That could be your proof

Maybe you could phone some local jewellers to see if they have bought the rings?

And check ebay - some people are unbeleivably stupid

How can I be 100% sure though? I mean, I know they were there and now they aren't, but I don't know how I can prove it?

We have been redecorating, so things have been a bit all over the place for a few weeks so with regards to the vouchers I thought they might turn up once we put everything back to normal, but they haven't. You then start doubting yourself...thinking, were they there...have I put them somewhere etc

    Argh!

Then you need to be sure. Could you position anything as suggested by thegirlintheattic?

I realise pregnancy can affect memory - hormones and stuff (as you're doubting yourself, have you considered this, that you may have misplaced stuff?). Have you spoken to your other half? He hasn't spent the vouchers, and you've just forgotten?

With valuable things, like money/vouchers/jewellery we tend to put them 'somewhere safe' - could you have done this when redecorating? (I know I've put stuff away 'safe' and couldn't remember where later)

Regarding the redecorating - have you had various tradesmen in the house recently?

They do have a code and a serial number and you have to quote these if you use them on line. Might be worth contacting them.
I would check again around the house, just to make sure, look in places you wouldn't dream of putting stuff, you'd be surprised how easy that is done.

You will have to be very careful in your approach to the lady if you ask whether she has come across any of this stuff.

oops! cross posted with the one above, I was thinking hormones too, I am menopausal....say no more!
  • These are cheap hidden cameras that could be an option, might work better with something tempting nearby:

I would suggest double checking. My parents have recently lost something valuable as they've put it in a 'safe' place which they can no longer remember where they put that *facepalm*.

I would ask this girl if she had moved/saw/touched your vourchers and jewellery.

Make a point of saying that you know exactly where they were left, and that if things don't turn up you will have to contact the police.

Give it a few days to see if they magically turn up again. If not, I really would contact the police...

I agree with this - and in the meantime, check out the vouchers with John Lewis if you can.

Also, check with your husband that he hasn't put things somewhere "safe" and out of the cleaner's way while you've been decorating...

You can't accuse anyone without solid proof, so I agree with the others, try to trace the vouchers and if this fails, set some kind of trap with a hidden camera.

I read a story about carers stealing money, the mans children brought a cheap camera.

Noted down the serial number on £20 notes and left them where the carer could see them but without being too obvious.

Armed with video footage they went to the police who found the money with the serial numbers on the carer.

This is the best idea. She'll know that the things are missing but you haven't accused her. It also gives her the opportunity to put the stuff back.

If the things turn up, I'd get rid of her anyway.

I don't think I would ever have a cleaner. I work full time and manage to keep my four bed house clean so I'd have no trouble with a two bed flat.

This happened with one of my cleaners ( I run a cleaning agency) a client rang me and said he thought his cleaner had been stealing from his home but as I knew her well I didnt believe him and although I wanted to call the police to clear her name he wouldnt and cancelled his clean. Then about 3 months later the cleaner ran me and said she wanted to come and see me - what a shock I got she had been caught stealing from a shoe shop and the police finding a large bunch of keys on her (she had customers key to let herself in to clean) raided her home and found loads of stuff some pinched from shops and other stuff from the homes she cleaned.

It came as a big shock to me she wasnt the usual cleaner type (if there is such a thing) She had to go to court and I dont know what happened from then but one thing i did find out is she started her own cleaning business!!!

You need to find a way to catch her if you want your stuff back perhaps speak to the agency and ask them to sort it out tell them the police will be involved they wont want this getting around to their other customers.

The people my cleaner stole from thought exactly the same as you - did I put it there - i wonder where its gone? they used to think they were lossing it.
