Internet down, now wireless lost

OK next step is to find out the IP address of the router
The following steps assume you're using Windows 7
Click Start, then in the searchbox type 'sharing' (without the quote marks), then click on Network and Sharing Center
In 'View your active networks' click on 'Local Area Connection'
Click on Details and make a note of the IP address against 'IPv4 Default Gateway'
Click Close on each window.
Now open your internet browser and in the address bar type the IP address you noted down above
If successful you will be prompted to enter a username and password. The defaults for your router should be admin and admin (usually on a label found on the bottom of the router)
Once you're logged into the router admin panel, find the 'wireless' section and go to wireless security (or words to that effect)
If necessary, change it to WPA2 Personal, and type in a passphrase of between 8 and 63 characters. The longer and more complicated you make it, the better. Now copy and paste the passphrase to notepad.
Save the changes, close the browser and unplug the ethernet cable. Now try to connect to your network wirelessly. When prompted for the network key, paste in the passphrase from above and you should be good to go.How do I add a signature?0 -
If all of the above looks too daunting for you, I'd be happy to connect remotely using TeamViewer to sort this for youHow do I add a signature?0

I'm on vista...anything different?And if, you know, your history...0

The steps are much the same although some of the words may differ.
Also I think in Vista you may be able to see your IP address by placing the mouse over the network icon down by the clock. Whatever that IP address is, replacing the last set of numbers with a 1 should be the router's IP (eg if your IP is 192.168.0.10, your router is most probably 192.168.0.1)How do I add a signature?0 -
re-post of post #14....it's out there on the 'net

quick search gives the following:-
IP address 192.168.1.1
default username/password are admin and admin
The GUI looks reasonably straightforward......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Via the internet. Isn't that the connection he's trying to sort out?
