carrers allowance and change in incapacity benefit

That's a good point, I get Carers Allowance of £58 a week but they take that off my husband's benefit money and give him a premium "because your partner cares for someone", I think the premium is about £30? So even though I get Carers Allowance we're only actually about £30 a week better off.Spot on. It's the same for my husband who cares for me. The fact is he does so much more than 35 hours a week so cannot get a job - plus I need constant supervision. This limits his life incredibly.
So.....the Gov is not stupid and realises if someone needs a substantial amount of care, it costs them a lot less to offer a bit of recompense for those why may not be able to work or only find limited work as they have to care for someone.
In a lot of cases, when it's family looking after family, the CA isn't actually received, only a smaller premium is......
£30 a week for all the hours I spend looking after my OH, that wouldn't even scratch the surface if he had to have professional carers and nurses in.Dum Spiro Spero0 -

Yes, we are in the same Position, however some think carers are raking it in :rotfl:
Can you imagine if some on here where looking for work and a company told them they have the job going, which involves caring for someone round the clock ( as in my case ) and they had to do everything for that person - including washing, bathing, toilet needs, shopping, appointments, turning over in bed, sitting in a chair, administering medication etc...etc...
"oh, one more thing Mrs X, don't go too far because your on call 24/7 even though the hours are 35 + - you will find your hours may be much more and you might have to do some personal things such as catheter insertion etc..
However, we will pay you £60 regardless of your hours providing you meet 35 per week."
"What's that? Your partner has a part time job? Oh well then, we can only give you the premium of £30 sorry Mrs X, even though your life is going to be very restricted until the demise of the person you are caring for. "
Would anyone here agree to such a job with such low pay if a company was employing them? I highly doubt it.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
the esa i get is contrabution based, does this make a differance?0

I am not sure Moi, it shouldn't do, I would be interested to know if it does because my ESA will also be cont. based when they eventually transfer me. You might find you gain, as they may not deduct carers from it, or it may be a benefit overlap.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0
