I think someone has already suggested avoiding manhatton for accomodation. I've stayed in brooklyn twice, at the 5 star marriot and would definately recommend it. There is a sub station on the corner and you are in manhatton in minutes. Brooklyn is lovely, the brooklyn heights area has a wonderful promenade with arguably the best views of the manhatton skyline, yet easily missed if you dont stay there. its a chic area too, for shopping and sipping cocktails or coffees in the pavement cafes and bars.

Dont be put off the subway, its cheap and logical, very easy to use and reliable.

Check out the manhatton prices but if they come up too pricey, definately consider brooklyn, you are not out on a limb there!

    Enjoy your trip

Just back from New York last week and have no hesitation in reccommending Novotel - Broadway, as someone already said.

The hotel was a good standard, very very clean, staff all friendly and helpful and the location is second to none. You are so central and close to all the main subway lines, restaruants, bars and brilliant if you want to catch a show. We left our room @ 18.50 and made it in plenty of time for a show starting at 19.00.

If you do book then go for R/O as there is an excellant American diner right outside.

Enjoy New York, you'll have an amazing time :)

The belvedere hotel is a 5 minute walk from times square

I have stayed there 4 times (3 on business, 1 socially) and have never had a compaint

Rooms are from $179 per night , thats less than £100 at todays rates.

I personally would avoid staying "across the river" or "slightly out of town" as it just lengthens what will already be LONG days

(Dont forget to reserve a limo from airport, it costs about same as a taxi if you book in advance)

    Hi

We stayed in Radio City Apartments in 2004. There were 5 of us and we stayed in 1 bedroom apartment (2 double beds/1 sofa bed) for $185 per night excluding tax. They also do studio apartments; check out their website

It is very basic but clean, comfortable and central (close to St Patrick's Cathedral). I would definitely stay there again for longer trips. We were there for a week and having cooking facilities made a big difference.

We've also stayed at the Pennsylvania, next door to Madison Square Garden. Again very central and good value for money, but agree with poster above - clean and good value but very basic.

Hope you have a great trip. New York in spring is fab!

  • Hi!

We stayed at the NIGHT hotel a few weeks ago (the same hotel as one of the other posters has mentioned!) & I can thoroughly recommend it!

It is a boutique hotel which has uber cool decor, all decked out with black & white furnishings for an ultra fashionable look!

It cost us about £80 a night & we took advantage of an offer at the time where you booked for 4 nights & stayed a fifth night for free.

We booked it through expedia & if you have a quidco account & book via that you will get cashback for the transaction too! They do have pictures of the Night hotel on the website, so you can see for yourself how the hotel looks.

Night is part of the Epoque hotel company, their website shows more pictures too. There was another of their hotels in New York which also looked lovely, we were torn as to which one to choose, the other one is called Dream - the pictures on the website look fab & I'm sure the quality of the hotel & staff would be on a similar level to Night hotel (it was in the same price range).

The hotel is located literally a few hundred yards from times square & so is close to Broadway & of course lots of fab shops (Hersheys chocolate store was just a few minutes away - needless to say I spent a lot of dollars in there!!)

I cannot fault the hotel at all - the staff were very friendly & went out of their way to help with any queries - you even get a glass of wine for free when you check in!!!

Yes, the rooms are on the small side, but from the research I did when looking for a hotel in NY it seems that most rooms you will find in the £100 price range are. The room wasn't too small, afterall we didn't spend much time in the hotel as there was far too much exploring to do in New York!

I too would agreee with one of the other posters - do try the subway, we used it several times, even at night & it was fine - I prefer that to the London Underground!

Have fun when you get there!

Here is a link to the Epoque site which shows the pictures for Night Hotel - hope this link works!

ps - if you do book, I would book via Expedia as I mentioned & not direct throgh the hotel website itself as Expedia worked out cheaper!

try some of the B&B's or guest houses rather than big hotels. Ones with great reviews are Chelsea Lodge, Jacks B&B and Abingdon Guest House - these are all around the $200 per night mark

Thanks everybody for their advise, I'm still searching for the ideal hotel for the both of us, I have had a look at the Night Hotel, looks real cool and the location is superb... but i think the price is alot more than what you guys pay for the period that we are going to (20th May till 24th May check out) I WOULD LOVE TO STAY IN THAT HOTEL, think it will be a romantic experience.

I have came across this Paramount hotel, i am just wondering if anyone stayed in this hotel before, and any thoughts about the hotel?

I don't think we will consider hotels outside the island, as we are only there for few days and we will probably go back and forth a couple of times during the day for getting change and stuff for clubing!! :T

Does anyone know any good club in NYC as well???? that would be a great help...

I stayed in the Paramount last year.
The bar area is lovely but the room was truly tiny. I was on my own and don't think two people could have fitted in my room which was supposed to be a double! Once my suitcase was through the door, it was difficult to move around in there!
When I return to New York, I won't be staying there again!
