Hi there,

I'm looking to buy this car brand new (not the one with aircon) and the cheapest one I have found, including the extra for metallic paint, is £5,958. Car needs to be registered before 31st March.

The car comes from a broker website but you deal directly with the Ford dealer that the car comes from. Website says 'ALL of our Ford prices are for
1st & only registered owner deals, inc delivery mainland England & Wales and your first 6mths road tax. Nothing else to pay.'

Can anyone find a cheaper deal at all?? (remember to include whatever the extra is for metallic paint!)

No, I can't. And I imagine Deal Drivers will be very pleased with this too :)

Just make sure you get the best finance and insurance deals to top it off.

    Oooh, well guessed!!:D

I'm going to buy it cash, not finance, so will save there. Already have a years insurance on my current 3 yr old Ka (got fully comp for £150 through Quidco!!) so will have to pay a bit more as it's up one insurance group higher than my current Ka but hopefully it won't be too much... not more than my renewal with the AA would have originally been anyway - they wanted £350!!

It just coming up to it's 4th birthday (in April), 18k miles on the clock, Ford serviced it's whole life, just had it's yearly service and the steering rack has failed and is leaking brake fluid and needs replacing at a cost of £300. (Dovercourt Ford wanted £875 to do the work, but local garage has quoted me £300 using brand new pattern part!!) Dovercourt advised me to call Ford Customer service to see if they'd contribute something as a goodwill gesture, they have been worse than useless and still can't find the faxed service history that was faxed 5 days ago so I have given up on them.

I will get the steering rack fixed, put 2 new front tyres on as they are a bit worn and try to get £3,300 for it privately. It's been looked after perfectly so I am fuming about the problem!!! Its outrageous that a part like that should fail after only 18k miles. If I had a bigger budget I would buy a different car, but the Ka suits me fine, and I get 3 years warranty with the new Ka and will just sell it after 3 years and get another. So at least I have 3k to put toward the new car and only have to fork out 3k. Am I being daft?? Knowing that I won't have to fork out for any mechanical disasters for the next 3 years is worth the expense to me...

That is a very good deal Airhostess, cant find a better one. Careful you dont wipe out your savings by spending a small fortune on repairs/mainteance to your old Ka. Which online broker are you using?

Personally I reckon it would shift quicker if you put it in at £2,995: if it's a base model, they're only £5,000 new.

As for the tyres, Hankook tyres are very good value and fitted as original equipment on some new Kas - they should be around £30 a corner, fitted, depending on where you are in the country. Try a local tyre dealer such as Hi-Q or http://www.mytyres.co.uk

OMG - can't really believe this, but Dovercourt just rang me. I had a brief chat with the sales assistants to go over the types of Kas available to get a rough idea of what I want for my new one, so the guy was ringing up to find out when I want to stick a deposit on a new Zetec Climate

Obviously, I politely said no thanks and mentioned the deal I'd found. Immediately, he asks me to come in 1st thing on Sat morning bringing the printout of the deal to see if he can match it!!!!!:T But of course he'll 'have to speak with his manager';) I think I will turn up on Sat and say he's got the deal if he PX's my current car for £2,700 (as it is!!) I'm sure he'll tell me to get lost, but it's worth a try, no?

Ooops - meant to say, thanks so much for the tyre info David. I've never heard of them before, but sound v good value. I'll wait till sat & see what the local Ford dealer says, if no PX available I will go out & get the tyres pronto! Oh and yes, good advice on the price - I'd like to shift it before I have to pay the final balance of the new one. If they don't accept PX, where's the best place to sell? Ebay? Local paper? Autotrader?

Assuming you can get £3k for the car, fixed...

... less £300 for the steering rack

... less £60 for the tyres

... less £x for the convenience of not selling privately

that's what he should offer you to make it worth your while trading in.

To give you an idea, Glass's p/x price is £2,860 for a Collection and £2,400 on a base model for an 02 model with 20k miles (yours won't be worth any more for having done 2k miles less).

Sorry, I got my figures very wrong because I keep thinking it's an 02, not an 03. They should be £3,350 and £2,820 respectively - a bit higher than I thought although there's a lot of mileage adjustment going on there, perhaps more than some buyers would be willing to make.

I think I'll settle on £2,600 as PX. I will pop my credit card on his desk to help him decide!!:D The old Ka is an 03 model btw, not 02.

Forgot to answer your question peterg1965 - the deal was with https://www.dealdrivers.co.uk.
