Sky asked for access to cable's network and Virgin quite rightly said no - it cost the various cable companies a fortune to create their network, why should they let Sky use it for free. I think Sky knew this would never happen so suggested it to try and make Virgin look unreasonable.

Why would Virgin allow Sky direct access to their network?

Don't forget Virgin offered an independant arbitration but that was turned down by Sky.

My view (as a Virgin customer) is that most of the blame lies with the Sky, but that Virgin aren't totally blameless either. I suspect Sky customer think the opposite (or don't care, cos they've not lost out).

I don't know the facts so don't really have a view of who's right or wrong. Unfortunately business these days is all about the money, not the customer.

Yes, I'm a SKY customer so it doesn't affect me. Buying SKY was my choice and I'm happy with it, even though I have the basic package. I can understand why Virgin customers are unhappy about it but not a lot can be done at the moment unfortunately. Hopefully they'll resolve it sooner rather than later.
Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A

I'm a SKY subscirber for telephone, TV and broadband and I wouldn't say SKY subscribers should downgrade their packages because SKY and Virgin were unable to iron out their differences.

However, I would say that it is very poor that both these companies are unable to resolve their differences in a way both amicable business-wise to one another but, more importantly, without creating negative impact on the consumers.

I have downgraded my SKY btw, not as a protest in favour of Virgin, but because I wasn't using the Movies and Sports packages as much as I used to and it saves me £24.50 per month.

I have had several problems with SKY and find some of their attempts to corner the TV/Phone/Broadband market distateful to say the least. At a time when consumers, whoever they 'belonged' to, were potentially about to lose many channels they like to watch, SKY was building a website solely aimed at making the switch from Virgin to themselves as easy as possible, highlighting consumers would get to see the programmes such as Lost and the Simpsons on SKY. Yes, it's a cut-throat world, but I find that very poor myself.

However, I don't think SKY customers are in any way responsible for what has happened to Virgin customers - though I'm sure many of us sympathise that you have lost channels etc. (I too lost 10 channels for no reason when I downgraded my SKY so I know how it feels to have something taken away which you feel you should have.)

So I think I'll write a full thread of my SKY experience and then it might look like you're better off on Virgin anyway!

Im a Sky subscriber and I wont be willing to partake in any action. Before we subscribed to Sky approx 2 months since we only had the 4 channels and arent in a Freeview/Cable area. We pay less than £25 per month for all 6 mixes and the Movies premium channels as well as the Sky + facility which I think is a great prize and so far we have had excellent service and are really pleased with it

Its not the customers that should be taking action - its the companies themselves, they are all grownups and should be able to come to some sort of a compromise

Im a Virgin customer on the basic package as I have no good arial reception - Im really annoyed about the loss mainly of Sky sports news but I wont bow to the pressure from Sky and will manage without it finding other sources via internet ect.

The Sky customers gloating now will possibly be changing their minds when they have to foot the bill from lost revenue and later when Virgin media put in good bids for all the popular programs such as lost simpsons ect.

The only people to gain from all this are the companies we will pay in the long run.
Aint got a signature - as I cant think of anything world wisely to say.

As Sky News is a non premium channel ie you dont pay for it you will not receive it. Likewise with Sky News and Sky One

Sky Sports 1 2 and Sky Movie are premium channels which you pay for
