Remember the excitement of payday:j:j Made it all worthwhile.. Oddly I still get this to a lesser extent when my fortnightly £135 JSA arrives.

This is Probably a good thread for me to be reading, as motivation to stick with my job and resist the temptation of quitting. I'm someone who hates work. Always have and likely always will. Been in my current job for a year or so now and keep thinking how nice it would be to quit and actually enjoy being alive for a while whilst I live off some savings I have.

    As for the OP.
I remember when I was on JSA for a while.
I actually loved it as It was so nice to not dread 5 days of the week. I wasn't wishing my life away like I do now. However, the only times I didn't like being unemployed were the rare occasions when family members would pop over unannounced and the topic of employement would come up and I felt like a failure.
And like someone else mentioned, you feel kind of guilty for spending any time enjoying yourself and relaxing; say, lying in bed playing on the computer.
But If I was on my own and didn't have people bothering me then I was really quite content being unemployed. I don;t seem to get bored like most people seem too. I could spend all day everyday watching films online, playing on the PS3, surfing the web, etc etc.

I think that being unemployed is frustrating as you really cannot do anything on the budget you get, social life is seriously none existent. I don't think job hunting is there 100% all of the time for me, but it always in the back of my mind, sometimes i can forget about it.

Yeah if I had the money I could get my days in the best without working.

Can't get up to the second floor, he only costs £5 a month so no biggie.
Neither can I but I have window cleaning hinges on the windows upstairs...but £5 a month aint much so fair enough. I have never seen window cleaning on debt free wannabee's SOA's though. I wonder what they would say about £5 a month on window cleaning...

As above I'd love to be in the pub every day but at £3.40 a pint the £71.00 JSA will only stretch to 21 pints a week....oh nothing left for food or bills...oh well at least beer has plenty of calories and the pub is heated but I can't imagine nursing 3 pints for up to 12 hours using the free wi-fi all day long....although thinking about it the pub's internet speed is 20Mb/sec and mine is only 3Mb/sec and costs me £27 a month including the landline rental.

but....squash at the same pub is only 30 pence a pint.....hmmmm.....chin scratching moment...and they do free food occasionally. Sunday cheese and biscuits, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday free sandwiches or something similar for the dominoes, darts, pool teams. They never finish it so everyone present has a bit....then there's the nearly out of date crisps that end up being given away. Well after thinking it seems I could live at the pub.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Luckily I'm working part time now but for months I was unemployed.
    I hated well-meaning advice:
"have you tried looking in the local newsagent's window for adverts?" "Have you looked in the local paper?"
Sending me job adverts that were really totally unsuitable for me then asking me how I got on with the application...
I used to say 'no thanks it is unsuitable' and they would be offended so in the end I used to say thanks then ignore it!
At least now I can just about hold my head up and say I'm a part time cleaner doing offices ... as opposed to ... umm I'm not working at the moment :/

  • Ah yes Sandhy, the dreaded 'helpful suggestions' - I know they're well meaning, but....! And the complete misconception about what happen at the jobcentre/signing on - like they sit with you for an hour and help you find a job... :|
