Whats the worst thing about being unemployed to you?
Comments

There are very few companies i've interviewed at that are of a sufficient enough standard to warrant my attention 35 hours a week, sadly.
Meanwhile, I continue to enjoy retirement in my 40's.

To me the worst thing is that after you have sent dozens of applications not a single one of them calls you for an interview:(
It makes you feel so worthless0 -
1. I agree about every day being the same, I have a lot of spare time but dont know what to do with it, of course even spending an hour or two applying for jobs leaves a lot of spare time. Being unemployed has also led me to become a nocturnal owl, which really needs to change quickly.
2. Telling other people you're unemployed. For me, its quite embarrassing when an old friend or somebody else asks me what am I doing now in life, all I can respond with is nothing and feel ashamed.
3. Going to the job centre is also embarrassing, every time I walk in I feel like the people in those cars driving by and people walking by are thinking, why cant these people get a job etc. I hate even being 1 min in that place.
The job application rejections are easy to take for me, I just take it on the chin and apply for more. I mean you cant expect to get a job with your first application. It does hurt at first but after the first one, all I can do is laugh them off.0 -
I think lack of self-worth sums it up for me.0
This is so true, I'd love to know who exactly is the prime candidate for supermarkets? Student? they're hardly gonna hang around forever, as soon as they get their degree they're gone, is it because they can get paid the lower rate of min wage?
Yes job hunting becomes somewhat of an obsession, I can relate totally, and I have very much became a recluse, my only real outing these days seems to be to the job centre every two weeks and the worst part I actually have no desire to go out now I've become used to it.
I've stopped listening to the news now, especially the local news as it seems like every week someone else has gone into administration, the only good side to this is it proves I'm not alone in this although it very much feels like it.
My son works in a supermarket. He went there (at 30) with retail (not supermarket) experience, a personable attitude and provable customer service skills, he was prepared to take a sixteen hour contract and work on the checkouts. He now has a 25-hour contract and is on the Oven Fresh section.
I honestly don't think they would have turned him down if he'd had a degree because he had the skills and abilities that they were looking for.
Previously ( the job before the supermarket one ), he had been unemployed for two years and offered his services free to a retail outlet where he had applied to twice before and heard nothing. This was done with the assistance of the Jobcentre and he was offered a job at the end of the trial (part-time contract).
Hope this helps.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
