Does anyone else sit waiting on the Postman to come hoping he brings some good news about getting an interview or something? I sat today waiting, saw him pull up and walked straight past our house :( same with the telephone, I always keep it near me during the day in the rare hope it rings, never does though, well I tell a lie it does ring but 9 times out of 10 its someone I owe money to.

It's very rare for a company to write a letter asking you in for an interview so no the only letters I get are bills.

The amount of admin in stopping and starting claims is a nightmare and costly to them. They ought to have a review. The staff dont know what happens if you are on the Work Programme and then break you claim then start it again. They need better training.

The cider drinkers outside my Job Centre Plus - this isn't a stereotype, it actually happens! Luckily my signing time is during the middle of the day so usually I get through the front door pretty quickly, once I had an appointment first thing in the morning and had to queue outside by the main road [shudders]. I know the alcoholics can't help it - but it doesn't do a lot for my confidence, if you know what I mean.

Depends where you live...probably a greater majority in these parts! Plus, there's also a hostel around the corner and the Job Centre seems to be a meeting point.

The worse thing is loss of status. Loss of purpose. The world doesn't need you.

What do you do, someone asks at a party. Nothing.

I don't know how anyone could deliberately choose that life for themselves.

I tell strangers etc I'm freelance and have been working on some marketing 'projects'...strictly true because all my projects are my job apps, interviews, presentations. I also have some hobbies which includes historical research, local and family history - I often talk about that and they presume it's a job.

Always try to self-market yourself, nothing worse than people feeling sorry for you at a party!

I have been unemployed since December (luckily I have managed to find work and will be starting in May, although a short contract and a not so great job).

The worse thing about it for me has been the negative affect it's had on my character. I feel like I've become a really negative person and have a rubbish outlook on life. I find it hard to see how I can ever make something of myself. I wonder when I'll ever be in the position to buy a house or pay for a wedding and start a family.

I am from a very high achieving family and although I am really happy to see my siblings doing so well it's hard not to feel jealous of that. I also find it impossible hearing them moaning about lack of money and the debt they have. I have the least debt of them all (small graduate overdraft) highlighting how ridiculous they are with money.

I could go on and on for hours about how rubbish being unemployed is haha.

I went to sign on yesterday and was told that from now on, my age group will be signing on weekly. This made me laugh. They are basically doubling the work load of some, so if they can physically fit in weekly signing then what have these people been doing up until now? Because they certainly haven't been finding me any work!

That's the thing that really winds me up, that in this day and age it takes a public body so long to make a simple calculation that can done with a spreadsheet. I remember when I went from Jobseeker's Allowance to a part-time role of 13 hours a week and it took them SIX weeks to calculate my new payment, which was exactly the same as it was on JSA:mad:

And by the time they do get it sorted out, I usually have some work and have signed off again - or sometimes off and back on again!:rotfl:
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.
