hmm i think im being thick also... i click the link from the op but how do i install the patches?

Either uninstall the old version or do what I did just install it over the top. You are then left with 2 installs in control panel/add remove dont remove the old one if you install over the old one, as it wont work.

I had a little red icon on top right of my toolbar, right clicking on that told me about the update and I downloaded it from there

Unless you've changed something in your options, I think everyone gets the red icon.
Maybe not everyone gets it at once so as not overload mozilla.org

'Check for updates' will prolly give u the option to upgrade via the red icon.

This should mean everything installed nice and smoothly for you. Click help>about mozilla firefox. It will tell you the version you are running. The latest version (the one you downloaded) is 1.0.2

Mine downloaded automatically (as I'd told it to do) and the red icon came on for an extension update.

Was painless. I'm impressed.
