Buying for our baby (due oct)

  • On our first we were really skint and put the moses basket on a table or chest of drawers. It doesnt sound ideal but we ended up doing it for all 3 kids, not out of necessity but because it worked for us. Half the time I'd fall asleep on the settee doing the late feed and the moses basket would be on the dining table where I put it with the baby in while I had a 10 minute sit down before going to bed. The mrs would come down for the early feed and me and the baby would be snoring away in the living room but at least she had a few hours kip in peace.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.

    Some tips.

Dont sleep baby anywhere near a window. theres a big area of cold around a window, if they are cold they will wake up and will wake you up too.

Whether money is a problem or not, an £800 Graco system can be picked upat car boot sales during the summer for £50. Same sort of stuff on Ebay, 1/10th the price.

Wipes, make them last twice as long, pull one from the pack, tear it in half, put half back in the pack, use both sides of the half yo have in your hand so a 50 pack now becomes a 100 pack, very MSE, I do the same withmy own wipes for my face.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I'd hope what you're wiping off your face is a bit different to the contents of a nappy!!! :rotfl:

I'm just me, working on my own common sense and offer no offense to anyone else but i would never, ever risk having a baby in bed with me, a roll over onto a baby is so so easy, they are tiny, if an adult rolled over onto them in their sleep, they couldnt move a centimetre so the adult would not be woken, the thought that people are brainwashed into thinking they would automatically wake if they did roll over is absolute nonsense, you wouldnt, because there would be nothing to wake you up.
It horrifies me, I cant believe some of these 'experts' are saying its okay.
Its happend twice in my life with friend/family so Im not just working on thoughts here.

Do you know, I just knew someone was going to come up with that even while I was writing it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Co-sleeping is not dangerous provided it's done properly - there are lots of resources to help. Our NCT teacher did it with all 3 of her children, and had lots of helpful advice. My son slept in with us every night for the first year, and has done on occasion since. We don't drink or smoke, and have a super-king sized bed. You don't go into a deep sleep when co-sleeping - I was very in tune to where my son was and how deeply asleep he was. I have friends who are still co-sleeping 2 years on. They can even breastfeed without either baby or mum waking up.

Personally, I don't understand why it's so badly thought of here, when for millions of people around the globe it's the most natural thing in the world.

We have a super kingsize bed too, so plenty of room (although Izzy always seems to manage to take most of it for herself :rotfl:

I didn't read anything before having her (didn't want to know), but co-sleeping was the most natural thing for us. I barely slept when she moved into her own room - I still prefer having her there next to me. We all sleep better.

    Lucky, just lucky,

We hear of the people who have got away with co-sleeping,
Babies are smothered every year in all countries but they are not reported or spoken about.
You in particular say you dont drink or smoke, thousands do though without thinking that it can affect them for the rest of their lives.
But, previous events have coloured my judgement so i would never recommend it. Two dead babies are enough to colour anyone's judgement I'm afraid.

No, not lucky at all. Properly researched and an educated decision taken. Any baby death is tragic, but with respect, I'd guess the deaths had other factors, not purely co-sleeping.

You know of 2 babies that died. I know of none, and (to date) 8 perfectly healthy children, from 2 to 17, who co-slept without incident.

Both my babies slept with us. We all slept the better for it.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!
