Does it not say "from £395 per eye" ? Hardly misleading is it ?

Frankly, if you think that you are no better than a mindless fool. rolleyes.gif

If you think that "From £395" when the average cost is over £1600 is not misleading you have a severely distorted view of what constitutes "misleading".

Sour grapes from a disgruntled ex employee perhaps ?

Price claims such as “up to” and “from” must not exaggerate the availability or amount of benefits likely to be obtained by consumers.

It's like a lot of things, you have to check if it says "from" such and such a price, of course the headline price does suck you in but you have to read it properly.

True, but there are cases where such figures are reasonable and cases where they aren't.

If an advert says "From £100" and 25% of instances will cost £100, 25% £125, 25% £150 and the remainder up to £200, it would seem a fair usage of from, since a significant number of people will be able to get whatever it is for £100 and for the rest at least they are within an order of magnitude.

But claiming "From" a figure when the average cost will be more than four times that figure is disingenuous and could well get you into trouble with the ASA (As has just happened with ISP's and their "Up to" speed advertising.)

I had Laser Eye Surgery about 2 years ago and and I've got no complaints. I was in and out in about an hour, eyes were better by the next day and I was Minus 6 in each eye.

I could not wear contacts and glasses suck so its the best thing I ever did.

    Was it £395 per eye?

Lord No, That price while accurate is for about -1 in each eye and I was much more severe and I paid for all the insurance etc etc.

That said I never suspected it would be £395 per eye, its like those car ads that say on the road from £9995, sure its feasible but if you want all the extra stuff like wheels and an engine its going to be more

While I agree that I never would go for laser eye surgery, I wouldn't say that glasses were a cheap alternative. At high street opticians they cost at least £75 for a standard lens cheapy pair, if you have a complicated prescription or varifocal lens' they can easily cost between 4-500 pounds. The recommendation is to get your eyes checked every 2 years, if you need new glasses everytime the cost over a lifetime can be huge!

Fair point, if you are struggling to make ends meet. However ... there are much cheaper alternatives to SpecSavers and other high street shops such as online glasses retailers.

But we do agree on the central point! :)

I can't understand the type of person that goes for these 'offers'. If there's one part of my body that I wouldn't want to skrimp on it would be my eyes.

Wife had hers done at ultralase, not cheap at £3500, but a hell of a lot better than the cheap high street chains.

Wife was sore for about a day, but her eyesight was perfect afterwards. I'm still keeping to my glasses though....

I paid £395 for mine. I was short sighted and wore glasses all the time. I went to the initial consultation expecting to have both eyes done so would have been £790.

However the surgeon said I needn't have both done. He recommended fully correcting one eye which he called monovision.

After researching what that was, I went ahead with it. so I suppose you could say that they saved me £395!

I've had several operations on my eyes including some laser work, all on the Nhs. I get double vision. The Consultant i see here in Liverpool has got a reputation as one of the best in the Country and just laughed when we were talking about that Tv advert once. He's warned me of the risks of further operations and has left the choice to me suggesting if i can manage it's better to learn to live with things as they are.
