LAZER Eye surgery

Options
£395 per eye....... Oh Yea !!!!!

The ever ending TV adverts for lazer eye treatments should be banned..... from..... advertising £395 per eye.
Having had a short but interesting career with one of the 'TV' nationals advertising the treatments, I can catagorally state that less than 0.002% of the population would be able to have treatment costing less than £1000 per eye. If you fell within the £395 range, you would probably not even wear glasses.
The average cost of a 'two eye' treatment over 2yrs and 23,000 customers was £3211.90 .

Is this false advertising........... Ohhhhhh Yars !

Those seeing 100% better within 12 hrs: 43%
Those resulting is painfull eyes for 7-10 days. 66%
Those having other issues not relevent before surgery. 47%
Those worst off financially who thought is would cost £400 an eye 100%

An interesting post & my daughter is contemplating laser eye surgery soon.

I'd recommend that you file a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority. It costs nothing and is easy to do. They may decide that as the claim is technically correct then it is acceptable. However, if your figures are correct then I agree that it is misleading and the ASA may well agree too.

Yup. When I was left a small inheritance by my uncle, I went for a quote.

The poster stated £395 per eye and I was given a quote of, get this, £3500.

    I said "no".
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

I would never consider a procedure on essential organs that carried a risk of complications when there is a perfectly safe and cheap alternative i.e. glasses.

While I agree that I never would go for laser eye surgery, I wouldn't say that glasses were a cheap alternative. At high street opticians they cost at least £75 for a standard lens cheapy pair, if you have a complicated prescription or varifocal lens' they can easily cost between 4-500 pounds. The recommendation is to get your eyes checked every 2 years, if you need new glasses everytime the cost over a lifetime can be huge!

I had Laser Eye Surgery about 2 years ago and and I've got no complaints. I was in and out in about an hour, eyes were better by the next day and I was Minus 6 in each eye.

I could not wear contacts and glasses suck so its the best thing I ever did.

I always thought that if the ads say £350 per eye, that's what you'd pay. I hate it when they sucker you in with misleading prices like this!

The complaint is more about the way they're advertising as opposed to the results of the surgery...

A few years ago I spoke to a very nice optician at a High Street chain, and asked about his thoughts on laser eye surgery.

His reply surprised me. Apparently the chain did some research, as they wanted to compete with others who had laser eye surgery franchises. He maintained that he felt it wasn't worth it for them (he hinted about post-operative problems but didn't elaborate). And that a lot of people who get surgery will still need glasses afterwards. I would definitely be in that bracket as my prescription seems to change every two yearly check-up.

Something else to think about. And my prescription has definitely changed again as I've got a check-up this week :p

Does it not say "from £395 per eye" ? Hardly misleading is it ?

Sour grapes from a disgruntled ex employee perhaps ?
