Transferring ISA from Halifax to Santander questions

I'm planning to transfer an ISA from Halifax to Santander.

I realise it might not matter as the sort code/account number are the key details but on the Santander ISA transfer form do I put the address of a local Halifax branch or is there a central Halifax ISA related postal address?

My Halifax ISA statements don't include an address just the name of the branch where I first opened an account.

Also, does anyone know if Santander backdate interest to when the form is received like several other banks or just from when the transfer happens.. trying to work out if its best to post the form to them or hand it into a branch!

Regards
Sunil

    Hi

When I filled in the online application today for the new 3.3% ISA, there was no section for filling in the details of my halifax ISA to be transferred. Instead, I ws told that a transfer form would be sent through the post.

Did anyone else experience the same as me...? I was expecting to give the details of my halifax ISA to be transferred during the application process.

I would also like to know if they backdate the interest as Halifax did.

    Cheers

Here is a transfer form you can fill in and print off. http://www.santander.co.uk/csgs/StaticBS?blobcol=urldata&blobheader=application%2Fpdf&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1223421227891&cachecontrol=immediate&ssbinary=true&maxage=3600

Santander pay interest from the day your old ISA disappears from you old provider.

All i'd say is be prepared for:
    1) it to take some time
    2) it to go wrong & then you to have to call & chase it.

They (either Halifax or Santander) ballsed up BOTH mine & my gf's ISA transfers - ignoring direct instructions both times.
Mine has finally been sorted (even though i applied after my gf). My gf's is still ongoing.

I am about to transfer a couple of cash ISA's into a Santander cash ISA and I am trying to fill the form out. In the section for the exisiting ISA it asks for the current ISA provider and looking at the statements I can see 'Barclays Bank PLC' all over it so I am OK with this as well as the address (just Barclays Leicester with a Postcode). However it then asks for the exisiting account number but NOT the sort code. The number of boxes to fill in is fourteen (six more than the account number - i.e. there are 14 blank boxes so exactly enough for the sort code and account number). It seems to me that I should put the sort code and account number as this will fill the 14 boxes? I can't find any help sections on the website for the form?

I am sure other people have filled in this form recently....

I think I have found my answer... Once printed the form has a 2D Data Matrix barcode printed at the top righthand corner. If you scan this and read it with an App (I used Google Goggles) it is basically most of the information you type on the transfer form. The section for the existing account number is split into two data fields - the 1st is six characters and the second eight. Therefore I assume I am correct - sort code followed by the account number. One thing I noticed was the ommision of the existing providers address; its just the name that is included.
I think the automated system they must use just reads this barcode and the data entry person clicks they have seen a signature.

Now let me find an envelope.

Oh, another thing, how do you all suggest is the best way to pay money in to this ISA. As I want to transfer the whole of last years allowance over, which I am doing with the transfer form, and also want to pay in most of this years allowance on top too.

Send your funds to the sort code and account number of the Santander ISA

This is a little bit worrying for me. I did the transfer of my 2011/2012 tax year and all other subs apart from £1 to Santander from Halifax so I could ensure the account was open on its anniversary and get the 0.2% bonus reward rate.

Yesterday I went into the branch to do another transfer form closing the account. The girl who printed off the form ticked to close my account and move everything across, she also ticked yes to the question about subscribing in the current tax year. I told her this was wrong, she said in that case just cross it out and tick the other box to say no.

Now I've read the form and it says not to handwrite anything on, but the woman in branch told me to do this. The form does say if you've paid into the current tax year do you want to transfer it across, and of course there is no tick in that box so I am hoping at this point the system will throw it up manually and someone will see it. Should I be concerned?

(Also my Halifax account is still showing 3% interest today but the opening date was 6/4/11, has anyone else noticed this? Plus I don't think I have received the 0.2% bonus, I think I will have to chase them).
  • I transferred from Halifax (who had f**ked up my ISA last year) to Santander very smoothly and easily.

@CitySlicker - I have heard that the 0.2% bonus will not be shown and you have to check if it's been paid. If you talk to them in branch they will be able to give you full details of it. TBH I don't trust Halifax at all now and they paid me the wrong interest when I closed my ISA their.
