Marathon trawl through Moonp$g last night but I have now ordered cards for the year for everyone - no cashback but I did find a 50% code for ordering over 5 cards at the same time. No last minute rushes to the card shops for me this year!! Only birthday and Valentine cards for OH to buy in person - he'd not be very impressed if I bought them on line!! :T4 February 2014 - Mortgage Free

Hey AG
Just popping by to say Hi - have started reading your diary...
Well done in the card purchases - I have made sure I have everyone's birthday on the calendar this year and buying a month at a time - need to re-stock my emergency cards too.
Take care.

Thanks for popping in
. It won't take too long to read but it's a start - I've just finished Natty's diary and yours is next on my list which is going to take considerably longer to read than my own!! :rotfl: 4 February 2014 - Mortgage Free

Hi - have finished reading your diary.
Sorry to hear about your sad news, but well done you for sorting out your goals for 2013.
Hope to see you around here more.

Thanks MCI. :-)
Bonus on the big card purchase. Some of the cards duplicated when I was saving them and I had to contact them to remove them from the order. They sorted it out no problems and refunded my card for the ones that were overcharged. I've just checked my card statement to find that they refunded at the full cost and did not see that I had had a 50% reduction. I've ended up with all my cards for the year (around 25 of them) for less than £25. Feel slightly guilty, but not guilty enough to tell them!!4 February 2014 - Mortgage Free

So stuck at home because of the snow today. That's fine except it gives me time to mess around on the internet and I think I can feel a holiday coming on. Not very MSE but nothing booked yet!!4 February 2014 - Mortgage Free

Still haven't booked a holiday but expect it will happen. Have made some minty pea and potato soup and have turkey and chocolate chilli in the slow cooker so at least I have done something productive with my free day off. Hope everyone is safe and cosy in this weather! AG4 February 2014 - Mortgage Free

So I have started to book my holiday. I say started because before coming oin to this site I would probably have gone into the travel agent and booked. This time I have researched all manner of options for booking and have booked my flights direct (via £co to get cash back!), got a great rate from the hotel directly and will book airport transfers (best I've found so far is Travel R (unless someone else knows any better). I've still got the fun of looking at what to do when we get on holiday so who knows how much more can be saved.
I didn't think I was going to have a warm holiday this year (planning a big trip to NY in Decenber) but realised that with some planning it is possible to do both AND continue to pay the mortgage off (famous last words!).
Before I came on this site my impression would have been that someone paying off the mortgage early would be saving every penny and very likely be missing out on life whilst doing so. What I now realise is that with planning and considering what gets spent on what and when , it is possible to live, enjoy, have treats etc., and still achieve a goal.
Thank you everyone :T (and not just for the nearly £300 free cash back money that I have accumulated since joining those sites - not all of which was ultimately for me, my Mum has benefited too - so much so that I think my family are getting fed up of me saying I hope you've booked that through ******* - think I'm getting a bit repetitive!,)
OK time to stop waffling and get up! Have a good day everyone

Hey AG
MFW is all about balance and you have hit the nail on the head.
Life is for enjoying yourself and if you can still achieve your MF goal along the way, then thats great.
Power to you....lol.

Friday seems to have taken a long long time to get here this week. Probably because I've been waiting until today to do my wages - normal pay day is the 20th but I was waiting for the RPI figure for the end of last year so that I could do my annual salary review. Better off by nearly £100 a month so can't complain about that :j Now I can start moving some money into the savings account for the April overpayment - yippee.
Have a good weekend everyone
