Thanks Yorkielass. I was very lucky that my story started with such a large overpayment when I cashed in an old endowment policy - after that I think I was so disgusted with myself and what I had been ignoring that I was determined it was going to go as quickly as possible.
If I ever go down a mortgage route again in the future (unlikely unless it's an investment property) I will be going into it with my eyes wide open and with a totally different attitude to it.
