Total petrol station - sharp practice to watch out for

It does sound wrong from a consumer POV so if it was me I would tell the local trading standards, but I get the impression that TS don't like to take on the big boys when I made valid complaints about my local tesco TS wanted to do nothing and let tesco get away with it.
It could be taken as price not indicated (all products should be marked with a price) but TS obviously don't care about this law as so many shops don't have prices on display.
It could be taken as misleading the customer.0 -
Same at the Total on the A41 near Watford. The petrol station is generally the cheapest and often has queues making it virtually impossible to move to a different pump.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Notmyrealname does have a point that there may be branding of the premium fuel at the pump, but what cannot be argued is that you should know the price of the fuel BEFORE you pick the pump up.
So either vote with your feet and don't give garages like this any business like 2010 says, or as Grizzly says, if you pick up the pump and discover it's the wrong fuel, or you don't like the price, put it down again and move on. This will cause extra work for the staff, and will also mean they can sell less fuel as people spend more time driving around finding and changing to the pump they want. Maybe then they'll advertise their prices more clearly.0 -

You're wrong, clearly the companies concerned knew exactly what they were doing. You appear to think that Total should get away with their crooked tactics and that they should be free to prey on consumers who don't notice their subtle scam.0 -
I fell for this at a Total garage in Manchester. It's only upon paying a noticed the diesel price on receipt was higher than quoted on the massive board at edge of forecourt. I queried this with the cashier and they said that price is for regular diesel, you bought premium.
I must admit I did feel cheated as this was not clear at the pump.
this is exactly what happened to me at a total garage in nottingham, the cashier said the same thing and "that pump only has extra special unleaded" or whatever it was called, it was about 6p a litre more and I was really annoyed as you don't see the price is different to the advertising board until you either begin to fill up or go to pay. I've never gone back that garage since.0 -
I've fallen foul of this trick of Total at the only filling station in the town in which I work, and only station for 30 miles of my commute. They get a maximum of a tenner out of me, for enough litres of diesel to get me to somewhere a bit cheaper.
Although now I think about it, same applies for Excellium or standard, because both are extorionate due to the rurality of the town.0 -

did you not check price on display before filling or notice total excellium on the pump handle and pump0 -
On two separate occasions at Total garages now the price at the pump has not matched the price advertised on the board.
Never happened at any other brand of garage. I avoid Total unless absolutely necessary now.
Sorry but I don't believe you. I don't think I have ever seen a garage that advertises the price of it's premium fuels on the board, and therefore everywhere that sells premium fuel does so at a price that is not displayed before you enter the filling station. Now if the price at the pump supplying regular fuel doesn't match the price on the board that is an issue, but I don't think anyone is claiming that is the case. This is simply caveat emptor, if you don't like the price don't buy.0
