Nothing, and I mean NOTHING gets my back up more than OAP's who think that because they are 'state pensioners' they are owed something more than the rest of us mere under 60 somethings.

I didn't know that Boots gives over 60's a 10% discount on all their own brand stuff until they decided that I was over 60 (I'm not).

At first, I was annoyed and then I thought "well, 10% discount is 10% discount"... :D

I know we should "be nice to newbies" but I noticed this post as soon as it was writen on the Freebies board, and I was trying so hard not to reply.
I also find the general tone pretty nasty, "trout" for doing her job, nice!

For what its worth Thorntons staff are nice if you treat them nicely.... I had 2 vouchers, mine and my sons voucher. I was in town ALONE as i work in a nearby shop as a "trout" also. *rolls eyes* and i said to the SA (not naming or saying anything as don't want to get sales assistant in bother) at the till as was at work on lunch break, son was at home could i please claim both? Not a problem said SA, and i was fully expecting a "sorry no you can't" type reply.

My vouchers had 2 different names, with matching surnames, SA had a quick look at the names on the vouchers to confirm the mother/son comment from me.

Be polite next time maybe OP......
    I'll get my coat.

Being brutally honest OP I find your whole post offensive and I'm struggling to understand the relevance of you being married or a pensioner - I would have expected both of these to have given you the experience to know better.

Maybe if you'd considered buying something as well as just demanding freebies you may have got a little more discretion.

And as for the 'trout' comment - I really wish we could hear what she had to say about you

Thorntons don't give stuff away for nothing - it's to get customers in the shop to buy more . Two people walking in asking for 3 eggs...taking the mick, really!

i really don't understand why "posh" is something to be scorned, or the relevance to this situation.

Does "posh" equate to sticking to the rules?

plus they all cost money to make, money in wages etc. I should imagine they get many 1000s of e-mails (especially this time of year) about a variety of stuff every day, so it does take a long while to reply tbh

As someone who has done her fair share of horrible retail jobs I know that shop assistants have to stick to the rules. Bending them can get you into a lot of trouble and there seem to be a lot of shop managers out there who can see/hear through walls! Plus there a lot of customers out there who really take advantage so you become immune to special pleading.

I have to say that I really hate people who allow children to criticise adults in this way. I have had incidents where kids have said "what a stupid/horrible woman" in front of me when it has all the parent's fault or I had made a genuine mistake that I immediately rectified. The parents don't say anything.

OP - when writing to complain never insult the staff as you immediately lose the moral high ground. Just stick to the facts. The 'posh' comment is completely irrelevant and makes you look like you have a chip on your shoulder. Whenever I see a complaints letter that contains personal insults I start to wonder whether the complainer is as innocent as they make out.

I've said it before on here, but it bears repeating. Staff dealing with the public are kind and helpful only when they do precisely what the customer wants, whether or not it is allowed. The minute you have to decline to allow something you are rude and unhelpful even though it's outside your powers.
