Natwest PPI closed account?

Hi guys,

I took a loan out for about £5000 probably back in 2001 ish and im pretty sure I had PPI on it.

I lost my job and the PPI never paid out so was useless anyways The account went into default and im still paying it off now as i Paid the debt recovery agency off with a 0% card.

My question is can I claim on this? The account was closed years ago so have no account number or anything. Ive obviously moved a few times but im sure I know which address it was registered in.

Is there a form I can send that will get them to send me everything i need so I can make a claim?

I can find forms to edit and send to them but it doesnt seem to cover closed accounts?

Can any one help me out Please

    Hi and welcome

Yes you can still make a reclaim on this, closed account or not, you still pursue the bank though for this by completing and sending the reclaim questionnaire as on step 3 below.

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step3

The bank where you paid the monthly repayments maybe able to check this out for you.
Loan account numbers are normally shown on bank statements, so if these were still active over the last 6 years, hopefully the bank will still hold the details.

Another option would be to request a Subject Access Request (SAR), more details below.

    Hope this helps, good luck.

They have 2 weeks to acknowledge your letter and a further 6 weeks to give you a final response.

    Hi guys,

They returned the questionnaire saying they could not find any info and said I may want to request a sar And said something about they only hold info for 6 years?

    Should I request a sar?

    Cheers

You should really have done this BEFORE sending any complaint. However, it's also pertinent that the Bank have mentioned that they only keep details of old loans for six years. Since your loan is from 2001 and was sold to a debt recovery agent it's unlikely that any records are still kept.
A Subject Access Request (SAR) letter costs £10 and MAY turn up information older than six years ago, so it's your call whether you want to gamble that tenner.

    hi guys,

Ive sent off the SARS for natwest and also barclays to see if anything shows up and hope for the best. How long does it take to get the info back or how quickly must they supply teh info?

    Hi everyone,

Just an update. Sent a Sars request to Barclays who were really good, they acknowledged my request and the paperwork was through within 7 days and it showed a Payment Protection fee of £350 which was put into the loan as a lump sum (News to me) so I sent a form into them and they acknowledged receipt of the PPi claim and said will get back to me within 28 days.

Natwest on the other hand havent even acknowledged my SARS request. The letter was delivered on the 11th June 2012.

I assume the 40 days is working days from receipt so they should get back to me with the info by 3rd August 2012?

If they do not succeed with this what happens? Do I have to send them another letter and report them to the ICO like you did with bank claims?

Cheers for help so far :)

You can only report them to ICO if you receive nothing at all from them, if you only receive information going back six years then that's as much as you'll get I'm afraid.

    Update:

Nothing from Barclays yet but I know they are dealing with so that's fine,

Bit peed off that RBS didn't even acknowledge receipt.

Can any one point me in the right direction as to what I do next in terms of non compliance with a SAR request?

    Many thanks.
