I've used my card plenty of times, on many occasions, in Central London, the City and various other places with contactless readers. Hopefully I'll get one automatically even though I don't live anywhere near London...

I have a Halifax CC which is a contactless, I applied for it in Feb and as you can see by my info live no where near London :P The debit card for the reward account I did at the same time isn't contactless. Still yet to try the feature as I don't really make any purchases for under £15.
    HSBC CC - £3000 / £3000
    Halifax CC - £1032.77 / £1032.77
Mortgage currently at [STRIKE]£82,299.71[/STRIKE] £76,017.62 would love to overpay

My other halfs barclays has it, quick however if your card is taken and not noticed or even copied with the mobile devide seen on tv you are liable not the bank!

    I prefer chip and pin
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

If your card is due to expire and you want contactless i would ring up and check before it's issued.

My husband has just done this as his Halifax Reward debit card was due to expire in May.

The agent explained that they are only issuing contactless cards in specific areas (eg London) but would see what he could do. 2 min later he came back and said he'd found the instructions on how to request a card but had never tried them.

The process obviously worked as the card arrived today.

I went to branch and asked a lady about a "Contactless Card" and she had no idea what I was on about! Thankfully a younger chap knew what I wanted but when he looked at getting me one the answer was just "No, sorry" No reason other than he couldn't do it!

Think I'll open a Barclays account!

I highly doubt that... Any sources for that claim other than "the TV said so"?

You are only liable if you have been negligent. Not noticing your card has gone missing for several months could be classified as such, but someone reading your card wirelessly and using it online and you noticing on your next statement, not so much.

Absolutely nothing in that article says the customer is liable for any fraud on their contactless card.

There is absolutely no logical reason why they wouldn't be liable on a chip-and-pin card, but are liable on a contactless card.

Both me and my OH have contactless Halifax Debit Cards. We rang the number on the back of the card and asked. It took a little bit of faffing as the lady had never done it before, but they just issued them through the post.

I spoke to someone at the Halifax Credit Card department who seemed clueless about what a contactless card was. They suggested I contact the banking department to get a contactless debit card (didn't bother doing this).

My new debit card arrived and that wasn't contactless.

However, a quick message to HSBC through online banking resulted in a contactless card arriving on my doorstep the following day. Don't really use this account anymore, but may start again.

Now I've got a contactless card, I can pay to park my car without needing to visit the pay station every time. Works a treat.
