How do I get Tesco to pay up??

So I came on here to get some friendly advice and have been accused of, it seems, being a liar!!!
    1) I have logged in many times (not to post new threads, I have only done that twice so far) using two slightly different usernames, and have done this with no problem - I'm not even sure which is my original one... is this a fault of the site?
    2) Why does Premier assume that I have forgotten my password (I haven't) - does he/she have access to my account??
    3) Why on earth would I make up such a story?
    4) I have the receipt for unleaded petrol, and the bill for draining the tank of the wrong fuel - and have just sent copies of these to Tesco.
    5) I drove for around 11 miles before I put the fuel in my car, and broke down a few minutes after. There were no other faults with my car, e.g no fuel pump problem etc., and as soon as the fuel was drained it ran perfectly.Whatever Tesco sold me, it caused my car to break down...
    6) I am not quite sure how I am supposed to magically and instantly know that others have been affected - the other person I know of was recovered by the same breakdown mechanic. There could be many others who have had a problem but used other breakdown services - which is why I've written to the letters page of the local newspaper...
    7) I'm not sure why I would buy diesel to put in my tank specifically to go and break down at the filling station, as when all is said and done, it is MY car that was affected, not that of the Chief Executive of Tesco - I don't generally go out of my way to make my life difficult!
    8) I have just spoken to Trading Standards, and they say that as I have the receipt for the correct fuel for my car, the repair bill, and the proof that my car broke down minutes after it was filled up, I am able to make a claim - and if Tesco still refuse, I should make that claim through the courts.
Anyway, I'm sorry if that was a bit long, I just wanted to get my point across.
Many thanks to everyone who was genuinely helpful!

The problem is still that only you and possible one other were affected by this from what you know.

The way a petrol station is set up if the wrong fuel is in the wrong tank then multiple pumps will be affected and therefore many many cars will be also. This will be Tescos defence and it is a strong one, hence the need for more evidence.

Im not saying your lying but I just cannot see how it can be exactly as described. Now if the fuel had somehow been contaminated in some way, water getting into the tank then maybe that would make sence but the only way to prove that is by having the fuel which was removed analysed but thats long gone.

I can assure you it is EXACTLY as described. And I do have some of the fuel (I always keep some in a can as I work unsocial hours, and I don't like to fill up at petrol stations late at night - I had filled up a can on that visit). After I received those messages suggesting I was lying, I smelt the faulty fuel, and it was completely different to some new (unleaded) fuel I bought today. The garage where my car was repaired also retained the fuel that was drained (in case I had trouble with Tesco, would you believe...!) However, I am quite sure Tesco will not accept either of the samples as evidence...

Seems Tesco make a habit of this......

Thanks for that - very informative! It's also interesting to read that Tesco themselves say that only a 'handful of cars' were affected' in Bournemouth but have accepted liability...

Not really a habit. Only one confirmed mistake

    Accepted by Tesco.
...A Tesco spokesman said: “We can confirm a handful of cars were affected by a fuel problem at our Ferndown store.

“We have apologised to the customers affected for the inconvenience, arranged hire cars and will pay for vehicle repairs....

“The problem earlier this week was an isolated incident caused by human error when a delivery was placed in the wrong tank.” ...

Not proven. See my earlier post in this thread. I think it was about half a dozen complaints spread over as many months. ;)

    Yes a handful of cases.

You only have your case, and hearsay of possibly another.

Get a handful of proven complaints from customers who suffered the same fate on the same day at the same petrol station and you'll have a good case.

Without those other complaints, history shows you won't get Tesco to accept any liability.

Note that TS weren't interested in following up your claim either, suggesting you take the matter to court yourself if you want to. If TS were aware of other complainants and Tesco still refused to accept liability, TS would have taken up the case for you (and the others affected)

Yeah because normal petrol stations dont get their fuels mixed up do they?

My local fuel station was one of the few that never ran out during the fuel strikes a few years back. You dont want to know what else was going into those tanks to help increase the diesel levels a bit.

He never got any complaints either and i suspect it was something he did before the strikes also.

    Bio-fuel? You wish.. :)
