But that was from a different pump. :)

If true, thats two pumps dispensing the wrong fuel, so with the throughput of any Tesco fuel station, there must be many many more affected.

Of course thats if any of this is true. I mean a user who managed to remember their username & password after 4 years but then apparently forgot it within 2 weeks...

    Hmmm....

And you reckon each pump has it's own tank?

    No, why do you ask?
How does this help the OP?

According to the OP's previous but one post, there was another case.
    Yes, I noticed that.

So that's possibly two people known to have been affected.

Do you not think it strange that there aren't more people in the OP's area complaining about Tesco dispensing the wrong fuel?

    My point stands, OP.
You need to find more victims, and one way of doing that will be to alert your local newspaper.

Or you might ask at local car repair shops to see if they have had any call-outs to stranded motorists with the same problem.
  • Hi all,

This happened to me a couple of years ago at our local Sainsbury's - there were several complaints and one lady didn't even manage to leave the forecourt without breaking down :)

Fortunately they admitted liability and covered all my repair costs etc.

Best of luck and don't back down ! xx

It happened in Kent a couple of years back I remember, but then it affected 50-100 cars, so it was pretty obvious.

If the OP is to be believed, only the OP is currently reporting a problem (with hearsay of possibly one other)

    See the difference?

There were also similar allegations (but in reverse, diesel pump dispensing petrol) in 2007 involving Tesco @ Newton Aycliffe.

They denied responsibility on the basis they only had 4 or 5 complaints (over a 6 month period) when they would have expected many many more.

So, in answer to the OPs question of how to get Tesco to pay up?
Find the other 50 odd customers who would have been similarly affected on that same day if there was indeed an issue.

    Simples!

Because you pointed out that the other car affected used a different pump... so? Both pumps are probably fed from the same tank.

Also, the OP states that the pumps had been 'closed down' afterwards. well depending on how soon afterwards could obviously explain why there are not many other complaints so far.

    You ask so?

Well with twice as many pumps affected the throughput of cars could be twice as great as with only one pump affected.
It was you that then made the massive assumption that I thought they would be served by different storage tanks.

Yet there is only evidence of one car allegedly affected and hearsay of possibly another.

See my earlier posts. When the OP finds about 50 other affected cars, Tesco will probably cough up. And that is the answer to the question the OP was asking

It is disconcerting that no other positive reports of the problem are circulating, although the fact that it was not in a local newspaper does not mean it didn't happen - maybe the paper didn't think it was newsworthy or didn't even hear of it.

Another (off-the-wall) possibility is that the OP stashed up some petrol in his garage during the recent supply-scare and put it into his tank before going off to fill up - but he had mistakenly drawn diesel when he filled his emergency can instead of petrol.
