No catalogue? No utility bills? Everyone has insurance of some kind - if you pay monthly then they will credit search you first.

You have it your own way.By the way if you have none of these products why did you check your report in the first place and find something wrong?

I have no loans, no mortgage, no credit cards
Have you ever had such credit facilities? Or even a current account with overdraft facilities (and within that category I include a cheque book/guarantee card because that, technically, gives a £3K overdraft facility with 30 cheques at £100 each).

Could you have been/would you be able to manage without that too?

I HAD a contract mobile with Three. That's who screwed up my credit file. After that experience of getting it put right I now keep well away. I only found out because I tried to change mobile operators and T-Mobile rejected me due to a CRA default. I was mortified as I had paid my bills all on time but Three had created two accounts but I had only one connection. One account was all paid up the other had deafulted because funnily enough I knew nothing about it or asked for it and it was a hell of a job getting it all corrected. Never Again.

I have insurance yes but just pay it upfront at the start of the year. Been with the same insurer for decades. Quite happy with them and feel they are fairly priced.

I have never had any catalogues nor want any. I have a current account with no oeverdraft and it does not report to the CRA's (yet). If I find out it ever does it will be closed.

I also have a First Reserve account with NatWest. That has a Debit Card but does not "report" either.

My Cash Transactor account with Yorkshire Building Society also does not seem to "report" either.

Our Electric is prepayment meter on Ebico. Best value for us. I don't trust Direct Debits either so monthly paying is out of the question any way.

So as far as I am concerned all the CRA's can go swivel and remove me from their records.
  • No CRA record tends to mean no credit.

You don't get "credit" checked for insurance, they aren't giving you credit. Insurance doesn't report to the CRA's on a monthly basis either. neither do utility bills.

All insurance and utility companies check for is an address verification for fraud purposes.

Agreed, because if you do take their payment terms you generally pay two months up front by credit card and the DD kicks in in month 2.

That's bad news for 'A Flock of Sheep' et al then, because if their details are removed (as desired) they wouldn't be able to purchase insurance.

Nor really. I dont need a third party agency to confirm my address for me. I can do that by providing a plethora of documentary proof. One such example is the Council Tax Demand.

Anyway we have been with our insurer for over 30 years so how did they check our address back then. They still invite us to renew now.

But that document, and any others you may have, will not confirm that you've not been made bankrupt or received a CCJ in the last 6 years, nor will it prove that you haven't a history of money laundering/fraud (which the lack of a CIFAS marker would...or do you want your fraud prevention agency [eg National Hunter et al] data erased as well?).

I can't believe they've offered the best price/value for money over that length of time. Lethargy?
so how did they check our address back then.
Maybe there were other agencies, especially on the fraud angle, involved back then? CRAs, as we know them now, have existed for over 30 years, although their use has been far more prevalent over the last 12 to 17 years or so. Before then, you had to go 'present' yourself for credit, armed with reams of paperwork, and jump through various hoops.

Blimey ! 30 years with the same insurer ! What a waste of money !

I got my home and contents insurance reduced by 50% this year, with more cover than i had previously ! Why pay £500 per year when you can pay £250 just by shopping around ? Lethargy ? Absolutely.

I'm with flock of sheep on this one. I don't see why I should have to pay anyone to see & correct my own information. It's my information about me - I shouldn't have to buy it back from anyone - and I should have the right to decide what is done with it.
